Zach Johnson absolutely stonewalls reporter who wants to know his thoughts on Mickelson

Published

on

Newly announced Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson was asked some challenging questions about Phil Mickelson at his introductory press conference yesterday.

With all of the controversy surrounding Mickelson at the moment, it is no surprise that Johnson was faced with some difficult questions regarding the star.

Somewhat predictably, “ZJ” refused to take the bait. He repeatedly stonewalled reporters, particularly Sky Sports journalist Jamie Weir, on any questions asked about Mickelson, but refused to rule out the involvement of Lefty in his plans for the 2023 event.

When asked about whether Phil could potentially be named an assistant captain for the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy, Johnson said: “Well I’ll say this, Phil Mickelson is a friend of mine on and off the golf course, and um, I’m going to leave it at that.”

There were plenty of follow up questions, all of which were cleverly danced around by Johnson.

Phil is the man! He exposed the hypocrisy of the PGA Tour and paid the price.

Unlike Johnson, Phil is not a coward!

It’s a delicate situation and the facts are not all known. It was a responsible answer from a well respected person. Anything else would have been inappropriate.

      Delicate? Are you 5?
      The facts are well known.

if you think what Phil has done is anywhere close to what Tiger did…you have absolutely no moral compass. Phil was leveraging, tiger was just a piss poor human being

Well, I don’t consider an excerpt of an “unauthorized” biography as well known facts.

And, I’m pretty sure ZJ isn’t looking to lose any sponsors over comments about a controversial situation. So yes, I’d say delicate is a perfect adjective.

      Mar 4, 2022 at 9:28 am

The reporter is asking the same question three times…. he is beating a dead horse at this point. Talking about Phil anymore is pointless lets move on. ZJ has a job to do and its not answering questions about Phil. It is not cowardice. It’s a wise move to say nothing keep the focus on the the Ryder Cup. If it was a press conference about Phil than the questions should be answered but it’s not so the question shouldn’t have been asked in the first place. The shame should be placed on the reporter for asking stupid questions.

      • Saw stoopid things like ya knowz it

        Mar 5, 2022 at 10:15 pm

It was cowardice, ZJ hasn’t been relevant in 15 years, shouldn’t have been picked RC Capt… Pure jokes, like you…

Phil Mickelson likes tweet suggesting major LIV critic asked for $55m to join rebel tour

Published

on

Phil Mickelson’s recent social media activity may indicate that one of LIV Golf’s biggest critics actually attempted to join the rival league before being denied by LIV.

The speculation began when Tiger Woods’ former swing coach, Hank Haney, said on his podcast that there was a PGA Tour player who’s been adamantly against LIV that initially had attempted to join the breakaway tour for an asking price of $55 million.

Many people on Twitter immediately started speculating (and some were hoping) that the player that Haney was referencing could be Billy Horschel.

Apparently, Phil Mickelson had been monitoring the saga from his Twitter account, because as this was happening, “Lefty” started liking tweets that were accusing Horschel of being the player that asked for the $55 million.

If the player in question turned out to be Horschel, it would be a tough look for the 36-year-old. He’s gone as far as anyone in his criticism of players who’ve opted to join LIV Golf.

“I honestly don’t think that the American guys who haven’t supported the PGA Tour should be here.

“The Abraham Ancers, the Talor Goochs, the Jason Kokraks – you’ve never played this tournament, you’ve never supported the DP World Tour. Why are you here? You are here for one reason only and that’s to try and get world ranking points because you don’t have it.

“It’s hypocritical because of what some of these guys have said they wanted to play less golf. It’s pretty hypocritical to come over here and play outside LIV when your big thing was to spend more time with family and want to play less golf.”

Tiger Woods reveals the best celebrity foursome he’s ever played with

Published

on

With Capital One’s The Match set to take place this weekend, Tiger Woods was asked about the best celebrity foursome that he’s ever played a round with.

Tiger replied:

“[John] Smoltz, [Tom] Glavine and [Greg] Maddux when they were all pitching with the Braves. That was epic. I shot 62, 62 and lost money.”

The three pitchers combined to win seven National League Cy Young Awards in the 1990s and led the Atlanta Braves to a World Series win in 1995.

The 15-time major champion was also asked what his “dream foursome” would be, to which he replied: “It wouldn’t be a foursome. It would be my dad, myself and Charlie.”

Tiger’s father, Earl, passed away in 2006 and his son, Charlie, was born in 2009.

Former NBA star turned college golfer J.R. Smith taking lessons from Tiger’s ex-coach

Published

on

Former NBA player J.R. Smith is now taking golf lessons from Tiger Woods’ former coach, Chris Como.

The lessons can be seen on the new show “Private Lessons” on the premium subscription of GolfPass.

Of his lessons with Como, Smith said, “For me, I think the most appealing part (about taking a lesson from Como) was about like how fast the transition for him to understand. Like, obviously, everybody doesn’t think the same,” he added, “but to make to feel certain sensations in the golf swing.”

The two-time NBA Champion made $90 million as a basketball player but signed an NIL deal as a golfer in early 2022.

In addition to working with Tiger Woods and Smith, Como has also worked with Bryson DeChambeau, who won the 2020 U.S. Open under his guidance.
