Journalist who exposed Mickelsons’ Saudi views says he’s ‘surprised’ the sponsors are fleeing Lefty

The biggest story of the 2022 PGA Tour season thus far has been Phil Mickelson’s connection to and comments about the Saudi breakaway league that has been rumored.

After Phil accused the Tour of “obnoxious greed” in addition to some other controversial comments, the fallout has been devastating for the six time major champion.

Alan Shipnuck recently wrote a book about the 51 year old, titled “Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography of Golf’s Most Colorful Superstar”. In a recently released excerpt of the book, Phil said that the Saudi Arabian’s were “scary motherf*****s to get involved with.”

After the comments were made public, Mickelson said he was “deeply sorry” about the comments he made. He also claimed that the comments were made “off the record” and “shared out of context and without my consent.”

Since the quotes were released, Mickelson has lost a number of sponsors including KPMG, Callaway, Workday, and Amstel Light.

However, the loss of sponsorships has surprised Shipnuck:

The comments below the tweet were mixed, but most of the twitter users seemed to disagree that the reaction to “Lefty’s”comments have gone overboard.

It is utterly amazing how the entire golf world and especially his fellow tour pros have jumped on the anti-Phil bandwagon. He made some errors here but let’s be realistic and fair about this.

All the Tiger fan boys such as JT, Rory, Couples and pretty much the world, consistently give Tiger a free pass. 3 TIMES he has gotten behind the wheel impaired/under the influence, endangering the lives of innocent people and not showing any remorse and zero explanations most of the time. On top of that, for most of his career, he has not been known as a nice guy, not fan friendly, a horrific husband and not the most charitable.

This is all because the PGA tour is afraid of competition, like all modern crony corps. It’s insane!

AGREE! Phil SHOULD tell the PGA and corporate America to “suck it”. It has been my view for 50 years that the following motto I COINED is a FACT. “Corporate America, we accentuate the negative to achieve the positive”… YEPPERS baby!!

Alan Shipnucklehead is not a journalist, he’s another media hack who couldn’t hack it as a legit journalist.

He needed to dump on Mickelson to be relevant. I do believe when Mickelson says it was off the record, but I still believe it was a boneheaded comment.

Justin Thomas dines at one of the most exclusive restaurants in the world…with elite company

If you’re invited to a restaurant, that’s a nice thing. If you’re invited to Rao’s, that’s a privilege.

The exclusive 10-table eatery in Harlem has no reservation list – you are ‘it’ or not, and ‘not’ doesn’t get you in.

From film stars to the elite golfer, the only way on to a table is to know someone that owns one.

2022 US PGA champion Justin Thomas may now be in that exclusive grouping, if judged on a recent post on his Insta page.

A post shared by Justin Thomas (@justinthomas34)

In the photo, JT is pictured inside the legendary eatery alongside Ben Weprin, the founder of real estate powerhouse AJ Capital Partners, country singers Morgan Wallen and Eric Church, and two-time Super Bowl champion and MVP Eli Manning.

According to the country music website Whisky Riff, the two singers often play a round or two together, whilst the entrepreneur is on course to open a Nashville bar and restaurant with Church.

It all fits somewhere and somehow, and it appears JT has had a fine warm-up for the upcoming Match VII, at which he will partner with childhood buddy Jordan Spieth against world number one Rory McIlroy and the GOAT, Tiger Woods.

Those four produce a foursome that golf fans will find top of the tree, but JT might find it hard to top his night out at the corner of 114th Street.

As he posted, “Rao’s lives up to the hype. Epic night with an even better crew.”

Charlie Woods reveals Tiger’s forgetful caddying trait

Last week, it was revealed that Charlie Woods had reached a reached a swing speed of 117mph, more than the average number on the PGA Tour.

Tiger has advised the 13-year-old to “swing as hard as you want on a shot, but you need to have balance,” insisting that the swing to copy was Rory McIlroy’s rather than the one that achieved 82 PGA Tour victories.

Tiger has, naturally, been a tremendous supporter of Charlie, often caddying at some of the junior events over the past year, including at the NB3 Junior Golf Championship, hosted by one of the legend’s best friends in the game.

However, the youngster revealed his father may not be as good a looper as he was a player.

In an interview for Golf Channel, the pair were heard discussing each other’s merits, and whilst Tiger openly discussed the pride he feels, Charlie pointed out a minor error.

“It’s hard to describe, because it’s so amazing to be able to be with Charlie out there and fight through it together and do it as a team,” eulogized Tiger, before continuing.

“Just the fact that he earned his way into the event by shooting the lowest round he’s ever shot. To go out there and play the way he did. Obviously, lots of lessons learned, but I think overall the big picture is he thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun for both of us.”

Fully aware of the pressures of being the best of his generation, Tiger was keen to keep it simple.

“I just want him to enjoy whatever he’s doing,” he concluded.

And what about Dad as a bagman?

“He forgot my putter a few times,” Charlie said. “That’s really it.”

Father and son are again expected to make enormous waves at this year’s PNC Championship, starting on the 15th of December, an event at which the pair finished runner-up last year, after making 11 consecutive birdies to finish two shots behind Daly Senior and Junior.

Phil Mickelson likes tweet suggesting major LIV critic asked for $55m to join rebel tour

Phil Mickelson’s recent social media activity may indicate that one of LIV Golf’s biggest critics actually attempted to join the rival league before being denied by LIV.

The speculation began when Tiger Woods’ former swing coach, Hank Haney, said on his podcast that there was a PGA Tour player who’s been adamantly against LIV that initially had attempted to join the breakaway tour for an asking price of $55 million.

Many people on Twitter immediately started speculating (and some were hoping) that the player that Haney was referencing could be Billy Horschel.

Apparently, Phil Mickelson had been monitoring the saga from his Twitter account, because as this was happening, “Lefty” started liking tweets that were accusing Horschel of being the player that asked for the $55 million.

If the player in question turned out to be Horschel, it would be a tough look for the 36-year-old. He’s gone as far as anyone in his criticism of players who’ve opted to join LIV Golf.

“I honestly don’t think that the American guys who haven’t supported the PGA Tour should be here.

“The Abraham Ancers, the Talor Goochs, the Jason Kokraks – you’ve never played this tournament, you’ve never supported the DP World Tour. Why are you here? You are here for one reason only and that’s to try and get world ranking points because you don’t have it.

“It’s hypocritical because of what some of these guys have said they wanted to play less golf. It’s pretty hypocritical to come over here and play outside LIV when your big thing was to spend more time with family and want to play less golf.”
