Most interesting photos from Monday at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play

Published

on

This week, the PGA Tour is at the Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas, for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship. GolfWRX was on-site Monday to spy a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers. The field of 64 is getting ready to battle starting Wednesday for the $10.5 million purse with $1.8 million going to the winner.

Don’t forget you can check out all our image galleries in the GolfWRX Tour Equipment forum.

Does Louis ever miss?

Look at the wear mark on his putter!

Abe Ancer sponsors himself, and it’s awesome

Look, when you own the company, why not sponsor yourself? And that’s exactly what Abe Ancer has done with his tequila company, Flecha Azul. You can spy the logo on his headcovers and even his wedge, which is done by Artisan.

Maybe this is the week for Zalatoris

Thanks to the unusual circumstances of the 2020-2021 mega season, Will Zalatoris is NOT a member of the PGA Tour yet, but he is the 43rd ranked player in the world, and a win this week would officially get him his card.

Ryan Palmer and old faithful

There are few “club relationships” on the PGA Tour that are as long-standing as Ryan’s with his Odyssey Rossie, but when you’ve won over $30 million on tour, you ride that thing into the sunset.

Scottie Scheffler has a bit of everything

There are no less than four different brands in Scheffler’s bag, which immediately grants him GolfWRX member status.

Jason Day is trending

Although he is still working his way back into form, Jason Day is trending up, and his bag of mixed gear is a site to see.

Patrick Reed testing irons?

Patrick has a unique deal in place with the Japanese manufacturer Grind Works for his custom irons, but this week we did spot an old Callaway in his bag again. Could he be making another switch or just testing shafts?

Harris needs to get a grip

A couple of weeks ago we spotted Harris English’s worn-out old putter cover still going strong and now we see that his grip looks to be worse for the wear too. As any golfer will attest, you don’t mess with a club that gives off good vibes, and his putter has been working just fine.

Sergio is right at home—wait, is that a long putter?

With the tournament in Austin, Sergio and his putter cover should feel right at home—Hook ’em Horns!

Now, it could be an illusion, but it looks like Sergio had a long putter in the bag when he arrived at the course. Although we didn’t see it as he moved to the putting green, the much wider shaft diameter makes it appear that it is a long putter, which would be a serious shift for Garcia.

It could also be that one of his putters is just stuck out of his bag too.

Ryder Cup vibes for Spieth

Jordan had a familiar Ryder Cup cover on his fairway wood, and I bet it gives off some serious positive vibes for the Texan.

JT always working

Even after a big win at The Players, JT was on the putting green grinding this week—no days off, kids!

The putting green is a busy place

The practice green at any PGA Tour event is a gearhead’s dream. From all the training aids and measuring devices to the putters available for testing, it’s a total free for all, and at Austin Country Club, there was lots to see.

Testing was in full force for Hideki, he was spotted with no fewer than seven putters.

Also looks like Louis is using the KBS one step putter shaft which is more newsworthy!

That’s not a wear spot on Louis’ putter. The Ping Vault putters have the TR milling that has a different milling pattern in the center. It just looks like a wear spot from a distance.
