GolfWRX Spotted: Matsuyama testing new putters at the 2021 WGC Match Play

Hideki Matsuyama has been spotted at this week’s WGC Match Play testing new putters, which all happen to be similar in style. The Japanese star has often struggled with the flat-stick throughout his young career and currently ranks 170th in Strokes Gained: Putting for the 2020/21 season.
Our members have been discussing the putters Matsuyama is testing out ahead of this week’s WGC and are intrigued that they are all similar to his regular gamer – a Scotty Cameron Circle T GSS.
For more photos, check out the full thread here.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- RyanBarathWRX: “There are tens of thousands of dollars ( in the market value ) of putters on the green – insane. But as others have already mentioned, I’m shocked to see him continually test the same style even though his putter is lukewarm at the best of times.”
- bladehunter: “Two of them have tigers new grip. That’s funny. Guys a fan and clearly paying attention to the goat. Don’t know why he tests he always goes back to that thin GSS Newport 2 with the 3 black dots, always.”
- jwhite86: “Hideki is my spirit animal.”
- Medson: “Maybe it is my lack of understanding. I can see the rationale behind testing different varieties of putters. However, Hideki is essentially testing the same style, and almost all are milled. What’s the point?”

Equipment
60 year old Ping 2-iron hits the GolfWRX Classifieds (with $600 asking price)

At GolfWRX, we love golf, plain and simple.
We are a community of like-minded individuals that all experience and express our enjoyment of the game in many ways. It’s that sense of community that drives day-to-day interactions in the forums on topics that range from best driver to what marker you use to mark your ball. It even allows us to share another thing, including equipment or, in this rare case, classic equipment.
Currently, in our GolfWRX buy/sell/trade (BST) forum, there is a listing for an extremely rare Ping 69 Ballnamic 2-iron.
This is the very first iron set produced by Karsten Solheim/Ping and only a very limited number of sets were ever produced. They were manufactured from blank GolfCraft heads and were milled out to create perimeter weighting. As they say the rest is history!
To see all the pictures and for the price check out the full listing here: Ping 2 iron, $600
This is the most impressive current listing from the GolfWRX BST, and if you are curious about the rules to participate in the BST Forum you can check them out here: GolfWRX BST Rules
