What GolfWRXers are saying about the best 3-woods off the tee from the newer releases
In our forums, our members have been discussing the latest 3-woods that perform best off the tee. WRXer ‘JFM628’ kicks off the thread, saying:
“I have been playing a 16* TM SLDR mini-driver, and it’s been great but getting near the end and looking to consider newer technology. I can always find another one, but I was looking for recommendations for 3 Woods with a bigger footprint – 180cc+ that would be used exclusively off the tee.
Are there any newer models that are out there that would make sense to consider? I really like having a deeper face for this club, and there is no need to hit from the fairway.”
And our members have been putting forward their suggestions in our forums.
- OsnolaKinnard: “If you’re looking for a long 3 wood to use off the tee, and you’re not looking at the tour edge exotics lineup, you’re doing yourself a disservice. I have a normal CBX IN 15*. It is a very low spin, slightly deeper faced 3 wood that is a monster off the tee. Mine is laughably long…like knocking on the door of my driver long. Additionally, it is not that difficult to hit off the ground…so there is some versatility there. I am not sure how the EXS plays, but the CBX is a beast of a 3 wood.”
- gentles: “I find the Mizuno st190 to be a deeper face profile that is still usable off the ground as well.”
- wam78: “Cobra sz big tour is one to look at for sure. I don’t hit a lot of fairways off the deck, so I primarily use it off the tee. Early testing has been solid.”
- MPAndreassi: “SIM Titanium is really good. I’m playing a 5 wood built to 16* @ 43”, and it’s longer than the Epic SZ 13.5* I replaced with it. The face on the Ti is very hot. I use it primarily off of the tee but still flys pretty well off the turf.”

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
- driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300. The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length. I am playing a Ventus Red 70. I play 70 grams in my fairways. I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee. When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time. So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck. The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
- JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Gotta second that Tour Edge CBX recommendation. I have the T3, in 13 degree. It’s a smaller head but it is still really easy to hit off the tee. The deck too. I got it for 60 bucks brand new, and in theory the shaft is about 20 grams too light for me, but I have never hit a 3 wood this well. No joke, when I catch it I get get it out around 300. I’m not the best golfer but I do swing hard.
