‘Cheap second set-under $1k total. What do you recommend?’ – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing options for cheap second sets. WRXer ‘ephmen’ kicks off the thread, saying:

“Interesting project-trying to put together a second set of sticks for under $1k to stash at a friend’s house at the beach, so I don’t have to lug clubs back and forth. About me: 5hcp, but prefer irons with significant forgiveness.

Struggling most with iron sets. Would love to find a cheap set of Srixon Z585s. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!”

And our members have been sharing their suggestions in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • LeoLeo99: “Eye 2 or Burner 2.0 are inexpensive enough and great irons. About $150 to $250 for them.”
  • GLF4EVR: “Titleist 735 for irons. Should be less than $200 for a set. Get the chrome heads, not stainless steel.”
  • AugarLandGolfer: “If you want new, depending on the shafts you need, you can look at sub70 for everything but the driver. For the driver, I’d probably target tour edge. Maybe for the fairway as well since that’s what they are known for, but it will be more expensive than sub70.”
  • Mych: “I’d go heavy on 3-4 year old Cobra. They had a ton of gear with adjustability, so for a set that you don’t play often, you’d be able to tune the specs real-time to be similar to what you current gamers would have. You could get a Driver/Fairway/Hybrid from the F6, F7, or F8 range for less than $400, leaving $600 for irons and wedges. Throw in any basic Anser-style putter, and you’re done.”

Take a look at Sub 70’s. I had a set custom made with graphite for just over $500.

Ping Eye 2’s. Play em. Sell the expensive stuff and buy balls.

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”
