What GolfWRXers are saying about Phil Mickelson using game improvement irons at the 2020 Masters

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Phil Mickelson’s strategy ahead of this week’s major at Augusta National. Last week, Mickelson revealed that he would be playing Callaway’s Epic Forged irons, which he described as a ‘higher handicap club’, and our members have been sharing their thoughts in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • acekun: “That is crazy. And pretty cool.”
  • Munich77: “That is pretty cool. If he does well, he may be setting a new trend.”
  • bombs: “Phil must be chasing ball speed as he ages to remain competitive on tour. His driving distance is good by tour standards but hits a low % of fairways. Obviously reaching.”
  • Rory4Pres: “This isn’t crazy. He’s just tinkering like so many of us do. According to the article he’s already been using them in the long irons and is simply going with the full set due to being in the grain on all approach shots. Makes sense to get a higher ball flight. I mean, if you are going to change your head or your shaft to get a higher ball flight I would think changing the head would require less time to get used to. Especially if you are already using long irons in that head.”
