What GolfWRXers are saying about Tiger Woods’ new Scotty Cameron putter at the 2020 PGA Championship

In our forums, our members have been discussing the new Scotty Cameron which Tiger has been seen using on the practice greens at TPC Harding Park. The putter in question is a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Timeless Prototype, and per our WITB piece published Tuesday:

This putter was a prototype for the 2020 Special Select line. It has tungsten weighs in the sole to hit the desired swing weight and feel.

Specs

Loft: 3.75 degrees
Length: 35.25 (finished with grip)
Lie: 70 degrees
Head weight: TBD (presumably heavier than his 327-gram gamer)
Grip: Ping PP58 Blackout

According to Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis: “The putter was made for Woods last summer to use at The Open Championship at Royal Portrush, and he’s been practicing with it ever since.”

It remains to be seen whether Woods uses the flat-stick for Thursday’s round, but our members have been discussing the putter in our forums.

QuigleyDU: “This is nothing new. He has tested putters like this for a while. It is typically for slower green as his long time Scotty is very light by today’s standards. I would not think slow greens would be in issue this week though. So must be trying something new.”
Yanki01: “He practiced with a different one at the Open last year also. unsure if it’s the same or different this time, but it’s one of the newer SC Tour models.”
Valtiel: “I forgot that it was Harding this week though, and I know he has struggled in the past with the slower greens there. It has been extra damp in the bay area near the coast recently (I’m down near Pescadero), and there is rain in the forecast tomorrow. Seems as good a time as any to try out a “slower greens” putter.”
