What GolfWRXers are saying about the best blade-like players CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing blade-like players cavity back irons. WRXer ‘mufasis’ is on the hunt for new irons and asks members for their favorite choices of blade-like players CB irons, and WRXers have been having their say in our forums.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • craz-e: “Titleist CB’s always have a great look at address, this year the t100 also looks like a blade at address. Worthy mention goes to the Wilson Staff V6, which looks and feels great.”
  • Bigjim1022: “Can’t go wrong with the 785’s. Bought a set at the beginning of the year after having my first real iron fitting. All I can say is wow, great feel and look. Equally forgiving as the 210s which I played last year. Lots of info on this site about them too. Plus they offer any almost any shaft (except graphite I believe) as a ni charge upgrade.”
  • SylvesterLundgren: “I know it’s dated, but the Nike VR forged pro combo, the top lines are thin, square, and compact. They have an almost blade appearance at address.”
  • wam78: “For what you are describing I think the 620 CB and cobra CB are the closest looking cavity that resembles a blade. Both small footprint heel to toe with thin top lines and minimal offset. I have not hit the 620 CB yet, but they look incredible! Also, I think the 620 CB sole design is just about perfect.”
  • Albatross71: “if you are thinking of a change I would highly recommend the MP-20 HMB, I currently play the MP-18’s and when I was on vacation had a chance to pay the MP-20 HMBS. Just have to say if I had the cash I would buy a set right now, they were amazing.”

Can’t miss with the Wilson FG Tour V6. They haven’t been updated in 4 years because they don’t need to be.

They have an update coming soon. Really excited to see what they came up with because I love what Wilson is doing lately.

Rickie Fowler’s new putter: Standard-length Odyssey Jailbird 380 in custom orange

Published

Editor’s note: This is an excerpt from a piece our Andrew Tursky originally wrote for PGATour.com’s Equipment Report. Head over there for the full article.

…The Jailbird craze hasn’t really slowed down in 2024, either. According to Odyssey rep Joe Toulon, there are about 18-20 Jailbird putter users on the PGA TOUR.

Most recently, Akshay Bhatia won the 2024 Valero Texas Open using a broomstick-style Odyssey Jailbird 380 putter and Webb Simpson is switching into a replica of that putter at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.

Now, Fowler, who essentially started the whole Jailbird craze, is making a significant change to his putter setup.

Fowler, who has had a couple weeks off since the 2024 RBC Heritage, started experimenting with a new, custom-orange Jailbird 380 head that’s equipped with a standard 35-inch putter build, rather than his previous 38-inch counter-balanced setup.

According to Fowler, while he still likes the look and forgiveness of his Jailbird putter head, he’s looking to re-incorporate more feel into his hands during the putting stroke.

He told GolfWRX.com on Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Championship that the 38-inch counterbalanced setup “served its purpose” by helping him to neutralize his hands during the stroke, but now it’s time to try the standard-length putter with a standard-size SuperStroke Pistol Tour grip to help with his feel and speed control.

Although Fowler was also spotted testing standard-length mallets from L.A.B. Golf and Axis1 on Tuesday, he confirmed that the custom Odyssey Jailbird 380 is the putter he’ll use this week at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.
