What GolfWRXers are saying about TaylorMade’s P760 irons

In our forums, our members have been discussing TaylorMade’s P760 irons after WRXer ‘TigerInTheWoods’ asked to hear some long term reviews. Our members have been sharing their thoughts on the irons from TaylorMade – with the model receiving plenty of high praise.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • jlukes: “Really great iron. Came in 2nd in my TrueSpec fitting to the Mizuno 919 Tour. Just got slightly better dispersion with the 919 Tours and both had better dispersion and more consistent contact than I was getting with my Srixon 765s (sole was a bit too wide for me). I could game the P760s in a heartbeat.”
  • cjpsse: “I’ve been gaming the P760s for almost a year now… love them, though it took a little work. Originally had Modus 120s in them, and almost sold them. Felt dead and hollow in the short irons (not filled). Changed out to something I was more familiar with in the Modus 130s, and absolutely love them. Firm but plush at impact, with plenty of strike feedback. Bag chatter seems pretty minimal, and I walk 90% of the time… this may be due to the George Foreman masking any nicks? Regardless, awesome irons, even on the days I suck more than normal.”
  • bfp9: “They were the first irons I got custom-fitted into so that may be why they’ve been the best irons I’ve had. Feel wise; they’re fantastic to me. Came from Hogan blades before. The 760s aren’t as soft, but they have the same level of workability, and I actually like the feedback I get with them more than I did with the Hogans. Hogan’s were much more of an on vs off switch. You either hit them flush, or your hands were numb. These give you more forgiveness, and in turn have more shades of feedback than a traditional blade, in my opinion. The look of them at address is beautiful. At the range when I was getting fit, I hit the 919 tours, the 760s, comparable Srixons, and Callaway something somethings – can’t remember. It was a very, very tight call between the Mizunos and the 919 Tours. The dispersion was the same for the most part – I just preferred the feel and look of the 760s. YMMV. Last thing of note – I love the gapping and lofts. They fit perfectly with my wedges I was playing previously, so I didn’t have to change my wedge setup at the same time. And I hate changing wedges more than any other club in my bag.”
  • Taz Kim: “I’ve had these in the bag for a since release. Love the feel, look, and performance. I wrote up something in this forum about my experience with p790 and i500 called my 2 cents. I recently took these out of the bag for some Honma twx irons, but after going to club champion for a full bag fitting, I put the p760s back into my bag.”

Why Ben Griffin is making the surprising switch to a Maxfli golf ball

Published

on

Ben Griffin might be a little too young to remember some of the iconic Maxfli golf balls that won on tour, but that isn’t stopping him from putting the newest Tour X ball from the brand in play. Today, Maxfli and Griffin announced an exclusive partnership that will see the PGA Tour player using the company’s four-piece golf ball.

While Griffin might be the first PGA Tour player to put a new Maxfli golf ball in play, he isn’t the first profesional golfer to do so. Lexi Thompson has been playing the Maxfli Tour golf ball on the LPGA Tour since the beginning of the 2024.

We caught up with Ben at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Texas this week to ask him about the new ball switch.

“I was able to finally get my hands on some and try it and immediately I saw faster ball speed with the driver, which is always something every golfer wants to see.

“Then I had to test a lot around the greens and test irons, test spins, test everything like that. Basically, I came to the conclusion that I thought this was probably one of the best golf balls for my game.

“And so I decided to make it official and partner with them and very excited to help kind of launch this golf ball and see where it takes us.”

Griffin’s ball of choice is the Maxfli Tour X, a four-piece golf ball that is made for highly skilled players that want consistent distance off the driver and spin around the green. An updated core design helps add the ball speed that Griffin mentioned and two ionomer mantle layers separate low spin driver shots from higher spin iron and wedge shots. Maxfli uses Center Of center-of-gravity balancing to ensure each ball has consistent flight in the air and roll on the green. Like all golf balls on tour, the Tour X features a cast urethane cover for maximum performance, and it has a tetrahedron dimple pattern to enhance aerodynamics.

It is exciting to see a golf ball at a lower price point — $39.99 at Golf Galaxy — being used by a top 100 ranked player in the world like Ben Griffin, and equipment junkies will be keenly watching his performance with the new ball.
