What GolfWRXers are saying about PXG hybrids

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing PXG hybrids after WRXer ‘af592’ asked for feedback on the clubs. ‘Af592′ asks about both performance and WRXers’ preferred models – and our members have been sharing their experiences with the clubs in our forums.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • TCZ: “Great hybrids! Had the Titleist 816 H1s previously. I play the 22 and 19 degree. Originally had Gen 1 and now have Gen 2. Both are outstanding. The Gen 2s have a more muted sound a spin a touch less. Performance is similar. The main difference is looks IMO. Cheers.”
  • SEP1006: “The Gen 2’s are awesome and have the best feel. Just point and shoot with total confidence, they knocked my Adams Pro A12 hybrids out of the bag after almost 10 years of hitting them.”
  • Hotdocta: “I have played both. I am currently playing gen2, and it is awesome – 19-degree 85 gram hc hzrdus black. It is the best I have ever hit a 19 degree. Also, they look amazing. Compact in size yet launch high and are easy to hit.”
  • eRod v1.0: “Recently did a full bag fitting. My original hybrids, G410, were good. The PXG were a tad better, dispersion and distance-wise. For me, they are higher launch and lower spin. The head is smaller than the 410, more compact with nice sound and feel. I think the key was my fitter adjusting the weights around until we got them dialed in. Nice solid straight shots and baby cuts with not having to change my swing. Got my gapping perfect now.”
  • Philomathesq: “I have a Gen 2 19* with an Oban Kiyoshi Purple 05 (100g), and it is my favorite club in the bag. I can flight it down, shape it both ways, and it seems perfectly at home when I swing out of my shoes or when I choke down and take a chippy swing. If I didn’t love playing a traditional 4-iron, I’d definitely put another PXG hybrid in play. I literally find myself trying to find an excuse to use this club on the course in situations where I have no business using it… it is that good.”

WITB Time Machine: Paul Casey’s winning WITB, 2019 Valspar Championship

Published

on

At the 2019 Valspar Championship, Englishman Paul Casey took the trophy at the Copperhead Course for the second year in a row. On a difficult Sunday, Casey’s 1-over 72 was good enough for a one-stroke victory over Louis Oosthuizen and Jason Kokrak as Dustin Johnson faltered.

Check out Casey’s clubs from five years ago below.

Driver: TaylorMade M4 (10.5 degrees)
Shaft: Mitsubishi Diamana D+ Limited 70 TX (tipped 1 inch)

3-wood: TaylorMade M1 (15 degrees)
Shaft: Mitsubishi Diamana D+ 80 TX Limited (tipped 1.75 inches)

Irons: Mizuno MP-25 (3), Mizuno JPX 919 Hot Metal Pro (4), Mizuno MP-5 (5-PW)
Shafts: Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 120 TX

Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design SM7 (52-08F, 56-10S), Vokey Proto (60)
Shaft: Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 120 X

Putter: Scotty Cameron Circle T 350-SSS
Grip: Scotty Cameron Matador

Grips: Golf Pride ZGrip Cord Midsize

Golf Ball: Titleist Pro V1

Mizuno’s Senior Club Engineer, Chris Voshall told us Casey’s somewhat surprising setup in his long irons is simply the product of Casey hitting the windows he wants to with the particular clubs in question.

“It’s all based on the height of the ball flight,” Voshall said. The MP-25 3-iron was more penetrating and better for him off the tee, so he kept it in there.”
