What GolfWRXers are saying about Tiger Woods equipment that never made it big
In our forums, our members have been discussing Tiger Woods equipment that never ‘made it big’. WRXer ‘cw1209’ created the discussion and kicked it off with his two selections – the putter sight dot and the Bridgestone golf ball.
Our members have been putting forward their choices and giving their reasons as to why they didn’t create the buzz that you’d expect from equipment played by Woods.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- dekez: “I’m not sure about this. Nike irons were not very successful. On another note: I think Nike thought everyone would be buying red shirts to look like Tiger. Instead, no one bought red shirts because they weren’t Tiger.”
- QuigleyDU: “Sight dots on putter are extremely popular. For some reason, OEMs do not do it though. Look at any boutique customer putter. They almost always have site dots or a sight line on the top of the blade. Flang lines is a terrible way to align a putter. Yet every OEM does it. Never understood why.”
- spring7: “Oddly enough, Tiger didn’t move the needle with equipment sales. Most prefer an 009 to a Newport 2. Nike Clubs never really gained market share commensurate with his TV and gallery draw. Putters and woods were terrible sellers.”
- MtlJeff: “Oh, don’t forget the Nike One Platinum. Basically the worst-performing ball on the market for mere mortals LOL. Remember the Golf Digest ball test where it performed so badly distance-wise that they actually allowed Nike to make a special statement regarding it not being applicable for weekend golfers. I think it spun so much because Tiger wanted that for his short game. It was essentially a custom ball IIRC.”
- leftyshindig: “Ditto on the Bridgestones. Great ball. Was given a sleeve of the last year’s XS (had Tigers pic on the sleeve and “TIGER” printed on the ball). Loved it. Now moved on to the B RX or the B X.”

Best ‘forgiving’ wedges – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing the most forgiving wedges on the market. WRXer ‘aaronpoling’ lays out his current setup and what he’s currently considering, saying:
“I am looking at getting new wedges, but looking for a forgiving wedge.
I currently play Ping G25 50°, MD4 54° and 58°. I used to play the CBX2 in the 50°, 54° and 58° and liked them a lot; but like any good dad, my son took them.
I am currently looking Callaway’s CB12 and Cleveland’s CBZ. Anyone have thoughts on these? Or recommendations of other wedges that I should check out?”
And our members have been weighing in with their thoughts and recommendations in response, with one brand coming out emphatically on top.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- boggyman: “CBZs are amazing wedges!”
- drewbens: “Agreed, the Cleveland CB wedges are great! Already had a CBX Full Face 2 54 and recently added a 50 and 58 (for well under $100 a piece). Was chipping so well last week that my brother-in-law asked if the wedges were legal. Definitely underrated wedges for those of us that are not scratch golfers.”
- BogeyTed: “Get Cleveland CBX/CBZ. Very underrated clubs.”

I fit and sell clubs and never had anyone ask for Nike. Our store featured the major names. Nike, Mizuno, and Cobra were in the back corner.
