Today from the Forums: “What does everyone use for their 100-110 yard shot?”

Published

on

Today from the Forums we take a look at a discussion regarding shots from the 100-110 yard range. Forum member, TechBroker, is having an issue with the yardage, saying:

“Usually my 54 is my 100-110 shot, but recently I haven’t been getting that distance out of the club. Been working with laying off my PW but honestly when I do that it usually still goes 120, and I’m missing my marks.”

TechBroker has reached out to fellow members for advice and WRXers have been going in-depth on the topic, explaining what works best for them.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • 1putTUT: “My LW (58°) tops out at 100, so 105-115 is a SW (54°). 120 is tough because that’s a lot to take off my GW and a pretty big SW. I’ll pick one or the other depending on which yardage miss (long or short) works best for the pin location.”

aenemated: “Usually just knock down my 52° wedge. Depends on the shot though – might be a full 56° depending on what I need to do or how my lie is.”

  • IamMarkMac: “I was hitting a full 50 or 54 wedge for 90-110. For the last four months though, for a basic 90-110 shot, I’ve found more success lobbing PW shots at the flag, trusting my feel to hunt a pin down versus yardages per wedge. Honestly, I don’t think I’m more successful with this method than using the 50-54, but I prefer the challenge and feel+flight of my half-PW versus the full wedges. My scores aren’t any worse, so I’m sticking with it. Anyway, once upon a time, I used a PW for everything inside of 125, so I should be fine.”
  • gwelfgulfer: “Depends on what bag and set up I have that day. Would be either a choke down 54* or a choke down 3/4 52*. Don’t normally like hitting fuller 58* shots vs flighting one in depending on wind and pin.”
  • rkillian: “My 54 wedge on a full shot is 110 when everything comes together. Taking some off my GW can do it, but I’m not as comfortable with that shot. I try and stick to full or half shots with my wedges as I can repertoire them pretty consistently. Distances for full/half respectively are roughly: 50* GW – 125/80, 54* SW – 110/65, 58* LW – 95/45”
  • rxk9fan: “I have been struggling with that distance as of late with temperatures in the upper 40’s. Normally, 50 degree is my standard 100 yards if I don’t get too steep. 46 degrees is my 115 in a standard CB or blade. 105 to 110 has been killing me. Ready for some warmer temps and see if my distances normalize along with some touch with 3/4 wedges to max and slightly closed wedges if I need a little extra. FWIW: 61 years old and Driver SS 99 and change.”

Shanks outnumbering likes 4:1 but no comments. I’ll be the first to say it. The people on this website are largely delusional about their skill set even when they wear gps watches!
