Today from the Forums: “4-hybrid for high swing-speed golfers. What works?”

Published

on

Today from the Forums comes a discussion created by Z1ggy16 on the effectiveness of 4-hybrids for high swing-speed golfers, asking fellow members what has and hasn’t worked for them.

Per Z1ggy16:

“Thinking about giving a 4h a go to help get my approaches onto greens in the 200-210 yard range a little more height and spin, plus some more forgiveness on the bad hits.

Driver around 110 or so and I’m in modus 120 shafts, so I’m probably looking for something around 100g. Right now I’m thinking Tensei pro-white 100x or tz5, possibly straight in (soft stepped). Ideally stiffer tipped softer mid set ups.

What set ups have you gone with and what has or hasn’t worked, and why?”

Our members have been sharing their thoughts and experiences on the subject.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Fouler: “I got a 4 hybrid because my irons didn’t offer a 4 iron (CB-2008). Went with the M6 with Aldila Rogue Black 85 and it does exactly what you’re looking for. 200-210 with enough height and stopping power. Would recommend. Likely have to find used or in-store as I believe you can’t order them off T-Mades site right now.”
  • exOdus: “SS about the same as OP. I had a 4h for awhile and liked it. However, I had to abandon it because I frequently had to use it on a couple of long par 3s with elevated tees on my home course. It would get up too high, and the wind would wreak havoc. Great off the deck, especially from the rough.”
  • chinaski: “I’m 105-108mph. I typically play a 4H or DI depending on course. I definitely prefer a 4i or 23? DI off the tee, especially for a par 3. Anywhere past the tee a hybrid is much more useful. They can be a great tool around the green, too. If I do drop the 4h for an iron, I will usually drop the 5w for a 3h.”
  • bryanwmillburn: “I’d highly recommend trying a 4H before buying. I went into the store last week with all intents on buying a 4H to replace my 4 iron. Walked out with a U510 4 iron instead. So much more consistent for me and I couldn’t stand seeing that much loft on a hybrid. Definitely try before you buy!”
  • juggernaut0609: “I am the slightly faster than OP & carry a Callaway xhot 4h with matrix white tie altus shaft in bag. Perfect club for it. Love it.”
