Tiger Woods WITB: 2020 Farmers Insurance Open
Tiger Woods has arrived at Torrey Pines for the Farmers Insurance Open. It’s a venue he’s plenty comfortable at, as we well know, having won eight times at the California course(s). In his first official stroke-play action since winning The Zozo Championship in Japan in October, Woods looks to break Sam Snead’s record for PGA Tour wins with an equipment setup that’s the same as what we saw last time he teed it up—from the 5-wood through the bottom of the bag, that is.
At the top of his setup, Woods is testing the new TaylorMade SIM Max “Rocket 3” 3-wood and SIM driver ahead of competition. Both clubs are equipped with the Mitsubishi Diamana D+ White shafts the 15-time major champion has been gaming in his M5 3 and 5-woods.
Regarding the 9-degree SIM driver, Woods said he has “seen improvements” over his M5 gamer, but still needs to do additional testing.
Per Golf Channel, Woods said: “[The TaylorMade M5 is] a driver where I can hit a draw anytime I want, and then when I do hit a cut, it doesn’t really go very far but I know I can turn it at any given time. That’s what I want with the SIM driver, I want to be able to draw it and then hit my little slap cut up there kind of shortening the fairway. Trying to find both, meanwhile giving me more distance with both shots, would be ideal.”
We’ll keep an eye out for the clubs that make the cut when Woods tees off alongside Collin Morikawa and Jon Rahm at 9:40 a.m. local time.

WITB Time Machine: Jordan Spieth’s winning WITB at the 2021 Valero Texas Open

At the 2021 Valero Texas Open, Jordan Spieth fired a final-round 66 for an 18 under total and a two-stroke win over Charley Hoffman. The win ended an 82-event/1,351-day victory drought.
”There’s peaks and valleys in this sport, but I never expected to go this long,” Spieth said after the win. ”Back then, in between wins, maybe I took things more for granted than I should have. It’s very difficult to win out here and I’ll certainly enjoy this one as much as I have any other.”
Here’s the gear he played in San Antonio.

Any chance you caught the shaft lengths? 45 driver?

He’s been known to play his driver at 45.25″. But who knows now? maybe he’s playing it longer for a bit more speed.

Should be ashamed of using a dinged up putter like that, I mean, think of the wrx resale value… Wonder if he can get a discount and send it in to get refinished…
Distance Compression Dude
Jan 27, 2020 at 2:04 pm
What for? If he sends that to Scotty Studios to get refurbished, the putter will change significantly for him. They have to grind, strip and refinish the putter.
For someone like him who can detect the slightest air bubble under a grip, all that work will change the way his putter feels. The weight might feel off. The ball coming off the face might feel different.
I wouldn’t change anything. That putter has won him a vast majority of his 82 wins.

Right behind your left ear is a button. If you push it, your sarcasm alert will engage. You will then understand that they don’t disagree with you. The OP was just being sarcastic. That’s why TLW thinks you’re a douche. If, after you’ve engaged the sarcasm alert, you still do not understand, it may be due to a lack of intelligence. There is a button right behind your right knee. Go ahead and push that. It will disengage the intelligence inhibitor. You will still need to reboot your cerebrum by lightly hitting your forehead on a wall. Only once! If you strike your head twice, it will put your brain in sleep mode, and there is a good chance you’ll freeze up. A hard reset will be required after that. Good luck!

And please, enough of the “Wow, look at the wear marks on the channel of his driver’s sole.” No, it’s obviously the abrasions caused by the “screw” being adjusted umpteen times. That was crackin’ me up late last year with all the nonsense about it. I mean, really, how could the screw/bolt be so clean and the deep channel have wear marks from a tee? So funny.
Valtiel
Jan 22, 2020 at 7:03 pm
Um, those ARE tee marks. The screw does not reach down to the bottom, and even if it did, how would it leave white plastic marks? Especially all the way towards the back. Moving the weights does not leave marks in the channel, white plastic tees do, just like on everyone else”s driver.
Jack
Jan 23, 2020 at 12:04 am
Those aren’t screw marks. Have you ever moved a weight? They don’t scratch the track like that.
Benny
Jan 23, 2020 at 7:33 am
Then why is the Sim sole starting to show tee marks? It certainly doesn’t have a weight chennel. Or why did DJ and Rors M2/4’s have the same white marks where there is no weights? Matter of fact why does Phil’s Callyway driver have the same marks w/o weight slides? Crack me up all right..

So not tee marks either? (Read)
