Forum Thread of the Day: “Better comeback – Ben Hogan or Tiger Woods?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from tannyhoban who created an interesting discussion on who had the better comeback – Ben Hogan after his car crash to win the 1950 U.S. Open or Tiger Woods’ comeback from multiple back injuries. Our members have been having their say with the vast majority plumping for Hogan.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Christosterone: “It’s Hogan…Tiger’s US Open on a busted knee was more impressive than his 2019 masters…the week before he couldn’t practice full speed..to win a U.S. Open like that is amazing…but Hogan was nearly killed in a pre-MRI world. Heck, they had almost no imaging capability for soft tissue….it’s unfathomable to achieve what he did when he did.”
  • bladehunter: “I’d say pretty even. For different reasons. Tigers was /is no cake walk. Money doesn’t cure all things.”
  • Rieflin: “Hogan’s car accident happened 70 years ago. He had to overcome multiple serious injuries to his entire body. The medical, surgical, pharmaceutical & rehabilitation procedures available to Hogan were light years behind what was available to Woods. Woods’s comeback was & is remarkable, but Hogan’s must be one of the greatest in sports history.”
  • TimK1: “I have to say Hogan but only because the medicine was not as advanced back in that day. Hogan mostly rehabbed on his own. The advances that have occurred since then and the rehab advances are a miracle now compared to Hogan’s day. Hogan never really recovered fully, Tiger seems to be in better shape than Hogan was. Tiger’s comeback was awesome though, and maybe besides Hogan, I consider him the greatest pure player to ever play.”

Hogan. With Tiger’s access to modern medicine and Hogan only having access to True Grit, why is this even a topic?

You’re kidding, right? It’s not even close. Hogan almost got killed in a horrific car crash, laying across his wife to save her. Tiger almost got killed by an angry wife with an 8-iron, trying to lay it across his head.

    Game, set, match to Hogan.

A better comparison would be Hogan vs Vardon. Vardon was plagued by tuberculosis in the prime of his career and written off as a dead man. Came back to win another 2 opens I believe.

It’s Hogan without a doubt. Even Woods said this when questioned about his comeback a few years ago. Woods also cited the fact Hogan had his entire body broken.

Hogsn, he was almost killed by a head-on collision with a bus and fractured his collarbone, two fractures of his pelvis, a broken ankle and a chipped rib. Then he had to come back to the hospital because of blood clots, emergency blood transfusions and abdominal surgery to tie off the inferior vena cava.

Hogan by a mile and without a doubt in my mind.

This should not even be up for discussion. Tiger came back from serial philandering and self-induced injuries. Hogan was literally hit by a bus!

Hogan, and it’s not even close enough to ask the question. Ignorant forum thread.

Hogan hands down. Guy should have never walked again.

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
