Forum Thread of the Day: “Most expensive equipment mistake?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day discusses the most expensive equipment mistakes that WRXers have suffered. Whether it’s because the equipment didn’t live up to expectations or just failed to impress, our members have been sharing what’s been their biggest disappointment equipment-wise.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • OspreyCI: “This one is easy…. Getting fit by Club Champion for a TM M2 driver. $1k mistake!”
  • TheWildThing: “Spending $300 on a brand new Nike Vapor Speed driver. I remember testing it on the driving range after I bought it and I couldn’t hit it as far as my old Titleist 975F 3 wood, lol. The sound and feel off the face was absolutely terrible. I subsequently sold it on eBay and bought a Taylormade M2 driver. I’ve always loved using Nike drivers, although this one was a major disappointment IMO. Possibly a counterfeit?”
  • jjj912: “Brand new Ping woods (D, 3W, 5W). Let the sales guy talk me into them even though I didn’t intend to buy woods. It was a while back, so I’ve forgotten how much I spent, but I know it was on the order of $700. I never hit them well and eventually sold them to a relative for pennies on the dollar.”
  • caniac: “TS3 driver. I had a great fitting. All the numbers were fantastic. Hit it long and straight at the Titleist Thursday. Couldn’t hit it worth a flip on the course! Gave it about a month, and traded it for a Ping G400 Max.”
  • mrp2wash: “That would be a brand new TS3 with 6.5 T1100 White 65g this past spring. I fell victim to the excitement of the new series and ‘self fitted’. Never got comfortable at address with it and can’t hit a fairway to save my life. Now it is collecting dust, and I’m back to old reliable – a 910D2.”

Most expensive mistake is buying an expensive club with a cheap OEM shaft.

IMO, if your going to pay big bucks for a club, put the money in the shaft.

Getting “fit” for a Titlesit 917 F3 3 wood with a Graphite Design AD-DI 6S. The head and shaft combination did not work for me at all.

Mercifully, I was able to lessen the blow by transferring the shaft into my F9 3 wood.

Bettinardi bb40. My fault didn’t get fit and liked the rossie style putters. Way too firm for me and the grip seemed greasy. Bettinardi makes good stuff I should have got fit first. Did give my wife the cool like green cover before I traded it though.

    Anything PXG?

GolfWRX has nothing but positive reviews with PXG. And as a PXG owner, I can say not many clubs in my life have felt as good as a PXG. A very close second would be anything made by Mizuno.
