WRX Exclusive: First in-hand look at Rickie Fowler’s Cobra Prototype MBs

Published

on

These irons have been teased out on social, but these are the first in-hand pics of Rickie Fowler’s prototype Cobra irons.

Thanks to the team at Cobra Golf, I had the opportunity to get into the Tour Cage at HQ and get a long peek at Rickie’s new Proto MBs. This report will get updated tomorrow as more specs and info come to me, but at first glance, I can say this

  1. They have a very unique shape with sharp profiles overall
  2. ZERO offset…like ZERO
  3. As you can see in the pics, the top line, sole and leading edge are sharp with a very short blade length
  4. Very high toe with some unique transitions flowing from hosel into heel
  5. The scoring clubs is what stands out the most, the PW has a very unique shape and almost appears to be onset
  6. From what I was told, the set photographed was the first testing model that RF used and is slightly different than his gamers in the PW and 9-iron

I’m getting more specific info from my contact in the Cobra Tour Dept in the a.m. and will hopefully update this article in the morning (PST).

Off to see Star Wars….enjoy the pics!

Im a RF fan and all, but do they need to put that “RF” logo there???….these would be a 10/10 without it….

Really cool irons. Make me a set of cavity backs with noffset and the same simple styling please. I need the leading edge for a digger, however. 🙂

    Zero offset…
These may be the first irons with negative offset, a new trend called inset maybe!

It’s called “onset” and it already exists in some player’s irons. Jason Day for instance has long played his clubs with onset to encourage a left-to-right shape. Justin Thomas’s irons are designed with zero offset whatsoever.

There have been irons with same offset, bordering on onset. The Tommy Armour 986 Tours of 1986-1995 are the set that immediate come to mind. Legendary for the lack of offset.

The 986 Tour might be the one set that I have never owned but STRONGLY DESIRE.

How about first and foremost asking your contact if (and hopefully when) these will come to retail??

Damn that (lack of) offset looks intimidating at address. I’d power fade (slice) the hell out of these bad boys.

Mitsubishi Diamana WB: What you need to know + club build, on-course testing

Published

on

GolfWRX’s Resident Club Junkie, Brian Knudson, was naturally excited to get his hands on Mitsubishi’s new Diamana WB shaft.

In this video, BK gives you a brief overview of the new WB, builds up a driver, and takes it to the course for some testing.

With the rebirth of the iconic Whiteboard profile, Mitsubishi didn’t just re-issue a classic, but rather infused all the company’s latest tech into a new shaft, paying homage to the original with its quintessentially Hawaiian-inspired stylings. A summary of that impressive roster of technology, below.

  • 80-ton Dialead pitch fiber: Positioned in the handle, Dialead is designed to deliver greater ball speed via better energy transfer.
  • Aerospace-grade MR70 carbon fiber adds additional strength, and 46-ton fiber in angle plies in the tip section reduce torque for tighter shot dispersion.
  • Consistent Feel Design: Engineers target minimal variance across shafts (butt OD, weight, and balance point) to make the fitting process easier.
  • Xlink Tech Resin System: Engineers continue to reduce resin content and increase carbon fiber volume for greater feel without sacrificing strength and durability.
