You won’t believe how much money John Daly was offered to “tank” the Open

Published

on

Golf gambling is indubitably on the rise, yet how aware the actual players are of its mainstream integration has always been a fascinating topic.

Tour pros are certainly heckled all of the time by angry golf bettors, but rarely have we seen a situation where the stakes were this high.

Check out this video below to find out what John Daly was offered to tank the Open Championship. Spoiler alert, it happened in the year that he won the tournament, and makes you wonder what other offers have been made since…

Safe to say he made the right decision.

Johnny Manziel’s golf journey continues at the upcoming Texas State Open

Published

on

Former Heisman winning quarterback and first-round NFL draft pick Johnny Manziel just accepted a sponsor’s exemption to play in the Higginbotham Texas State Open.

It’s a tournament that should have special meaning to Manziel, as it will be held at the Cascades Club in Tyler, Texas, where Manziel is originally from. This will be the former Cleveland Browns quarterback’s fourth start in this tournament. He has missed the cut in all three previous appearances.

Manziel has spoken openly about how incredibly committed he is to improving his golf game and competing at a high level. “I have been working hard on my game and I look forward to seeing how it stacks up against an incredibly strong field of professionals and amateurs. I grew up in Tyler and have played countless rounds at The Cascades Club.”

The tournament kicks off on July 27, and follows a standard 72-hole stroke play format. Tony Romo joins Manziel as another sponsor’s exemption, and both former NFL quarterbacks will be competing against 154 other professionals and amateurs for a purse of $200,000.

The prank wars continue amongst hopeful European Ryder Cup teammates

Published

on

Wondering why chemistry is never an issue on European Ryder Cup teams? Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson continued their long running prank war this week at the Open Championship.

The “feud” began at the 2020 DP World Tour Championship when Poulter stole Stenson’s car keys. Since then, laundry has been looted and cars have been vandalized.

A major championship was far from a valid excuse for the Ryder Cup teammates to go at it again. “At 4am this morning, I woke up to a stampede on my roof. It sounded like 14 pterodactyl dinosaurs on the roof.” Poulter remarked in a video posted to his twitter account.

Apparently, another Tour pro had seen Stenson walking over to Poulter’s RV late in the evening with tuna on a toasted slice a bread, thus attracting the birds. Stenson coyly responded, “They [birds] love tuna.”

While this feud might not evoke the same level of vitriol as the one between expected Ryder Cup teammates, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, it is every bit as fun.
