Forum Thread of the Day: “Nick Faldo – Golf’s best talking head? (If not, then who is?)”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from ksuWildcat who began a thread in praise of Nick Faldo, who ksuWildcat believes is golf’s best analyst to listen to, writing “He’s hilarious as hell, and has great golf insight”. While a lot of our members agree, as you will find out, some don’t, with plenty of our members giving their recommendation for the title of “Golf’s best talking head”.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the full discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • dpb5031: “Faldo is good at his job; I enjoy his commentary. He’s insightful, credible, self-deprecating/can laugh at himself, has a dry wit, and does his homework. Hard to believe he’s the same guy who walked the fairways as an overgrown Hogan-type assassin as a player.”
  • cardoustie: “Love Miller. I am biased though. He was my idol growing up, and I love people that deliver the goods via straight talk (i.e. the opposite of Nantz). Faldo also OK as another poster said I’d rather listen to a former multiple major champion. THE BEST is Peter Allis. The right tone at the right time with a wicked sense of humor. One recent Open he commented on all the players in white pants and quipped something like “such bravery these young men of today.”
  • thesaxemachine: “I’m completely fine with Nick in the booth. Gary McCord, on the other hand, needs to go. Just constant verbal diarrhea.”
  • Nard_S: “Faldo is the best talking head in golf who backs it up w/ the best career. He talks inside the ropes and game more candidly than most and is usually spot on in his assessments. Refreshing, especially after a high dosage of Nantz.”
  • Scotty1140: “Whoops. Thought this would be a Faldo bashing thread. I’ll see myself out.”

He was a plonker as a player and a plonker as a Ryder Cup captain but fair play, his insight and the way he explains things is excellent. He comes across as a decent enough guy too. Tattoos can be removed these days and apparently leopards can change their spots.

I enjoy the observations Sir Nick expresses; he’s one of the best. One criticism I have, however, is that at a certain point in a man’s life, it’s no longer necessary to dye the hair, not a good idea. Perhaps it’s hair jealousy but, “Come on man!”, just age gracefully.

Miller obviously will go down as the best. Faldo is great because he gives great insight along with a little comedy here and there which everyone agrees seems out of character considering how he was as a player. I believe Azinger will be another good one too just wait and see. He knows the players well and will not be afraid to call it as he sees it.

Think Sir Nick is great although he did have an issue last week with Pro Tracer numbers. Saying that apex was swing speed couldn’t figure out how they were hitting it 310 yards with 109 ft swing speed lol.

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
