Forum Thread of the Day: “Why do so many people have an issue with Rory Sabbatini?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Hit em Good, who asks fellow GolfWRX members why they think that there is so much animosity from golf fans towards Rory Sabbatini. There are always two sides to every story, and in this thread, our members discuss the 42-year-old, along with other PGA Tour professionals.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • sdandrea: “I don’t know the man so I can’t pass judgement.  His face and body language to project a bit of impatience and negativity.  Could be that he is just very serious during competition. “
  • 27×10.5: “Something years ago about quitting Tigers tournament for shin splints while in last place then keeping the automatic $200k for showing up…not that I cared, but it was a big story then.”
  • Rosco1216: “I was playing with a local pro I know well.  He played 30 some PGA tour events in the early 2000s.  I randomly asked him who the most disliked guy on tour was, and without pause, “Rory Sabbatini without a doubt.”
  • BMC: “There was a story a few years ago at the Sony in Hawaii.  Rory S came in very early for a practice round and was paired with a husband and wife tourist twosome.  It’s a resort course.  The couple said he couldn’t have been nicer.  Helping them with their game and enjoying his company.  They ate lunch together after the round, and he picked up the tab.”

If this is the forum thread of the day, maybe wrx should shut down for winter.

It’s a lame thread, started as a pretty obvious troll that devolved into taking shots at random tour players, not really a shining example of the forums, lol.

I think he was trying to slate him by giving him a disparaging label just for the sake. Muppet though he is, mate

The best 5-woods on the market – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing 5-woods. WRXer ‘Texas_Golfer’ is on the hunt for a new 5-wood and kicks off the thread saying:

“Currently have a cobra F9 and just want something new. It’s the oldest club in my bag haha. What would you say is the best one out right now? Was thinking Ping G425 maybe? Or maybe the new cobra RadSpeed? Looking for any first-hand experience and opinions. Thanks.”

And our members have been sharing their favorite 5-woods in the thread.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • jbandalo: “Ping G425 fairway woods are exceptional. Super easy to hit and consistent.”
  • Texas_Tom: “I think the G425 is the friendliest and straightest FW out there. Maybe not the absolute longest? But very easy for the 2nd shot on a long hole. The shaft is going to be the main issue. I don’t like the Ping Alta CB shafts, except for the Tour shaft in a 3W. I changed out shafts for the Orange Tensei shaft and love it.”
  • Byrdman2230: “I was playing sim max until I hit the G425 fairways. They are the easiest fairway woods I’ve ever hit. Pair them with the tour 75 shaft, and you’re good to go.”
  • Mobert19: “This forum is sickening. It just made me order a TSi2 5 wood when I have a TSi3 3 wood and 19 degree G425 hybrid. This place is bad news.”

What GolfWRXers are saying about TaylorMade’s 300 Mini Driver

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been sharing their recent experiences with TaylorMade’s 300 Mini Driver. The Mini Driver came out earlier this summer, and with more and more WRXers testing out the new addition from TaylorMade, they’ve been discussing the club at length in our forums.

Here are a few recent posts from members on the Mini Driver, but make sure to have your say at the link below.

  • bjh1: “Have been bagging my TM300 Mini at 13.5 as my primary driver for about a month now, and I am loving it. According to my Garmin stats, I’m averaging 248 yards with the mini vs 262 I was getting with my Epic Flash, but my dispersion is waaay better. Also, it’s been very wet here for the past 3 weeks so that yardage is pretty much all carry, so when it dries out, I’d expect it to be about the same yardage as the big driver. Love the look, the feel, and the sound of it. And I’m able to hit it on some holes I used to hit a 5-wood or iron on because I’m just so much more confident that it will go reasonably straight.”
  • meh: “I am loving the mini!!!!! I have mine (13.5) lofted down a little. I keep looking for a driver (just moved on an epic LS and getting a Mizuno st-z), but I’m not sure why. Misses with the mini are much better than a miss with the driver.”
  • christof87: “Early thoughts on 300 Mini in 13.5 in the stock stiff shaft: On course: 1 round and 5 tee shots hit with it – takes a bit of adjustment with setup to get comfortable. Range: Able to hit it off a mat okay, but would need more time with it to give a good view. Distance: It’s probably 10-15 yards longer than my 13.5 degree 3 wood at the same loft off a tee. Flight off the tee: tends to be low-ish and very flat.”
  • me05501: “I reverted to my Mavrik 3+ for the time being. The Mini Driver is a neat product, but it behaves just like my driver in my hands, and my driver is pretty reliable anyway, so no real advantage to carrying the MD. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for another SLDR Mini…that club was money for me in a way the Original One and TM300 were not.”

GolfWRX Spotted: Mizuno Pro 223 irons at Shriners Hospitals for Children Open

Published

on

The PGA Tour is in Las Vegas this week for the 2021 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, and Rory Sabbatini has made his way to Sin City with a new set of irons in the bag: Mizuno’s Pro 223 iron model.

The Olympic Silver medalist most recently had Mizuno’s MP-20 MMC (5-PW) and Hot Metal Pro (4) irons in the bag but has switched into the brand’s new 223 model, which is expected to be released at retail next February.

Per Mizuno, the new 223 irons are “built for speed, but sized for the tour,” with a smaller profile than the company’s MP-20 MMC model and some additional technology borrowing from the HMB platform under the hood. We’ve heard rumors of thinner faces, beveled soles, and particular attention paid to the size and construction of the scoring irons in a bid to land Pro 223s in more, well, pros’ bags.

Not surprisingly, many of the member comments on the Sabbatini WITB thread mention the 223s, including Foreleft, who says “I am really looking forward to hitting the 223’s. Think they will tick a lot of the boxes for what I look for in an iron.”

BunkersAreBigCups writes: “Oh boy, that 223 looks beautiful at address…”

Check out more photos of Sabbatini’s bag at the 2021 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in our forums here and let us know what you think in the comments.
