Spotted: Three new “Mizuno prototype” drivers hit the USGA Conforming Clubs list

Published

on

The USGA Conforming Clubs list is always, always full of surprises. As of September 1, three new Mizuno Prototype drivers appear on the list.

The most notable part? The switch from blue to black.

Unfortunately, this could be a future Japan-only release, rather than made for the U.S. market. Tour Spec Golf, a company devoted to high-end JDM golf gear, has “in-hand” (on ground) photos on its Instagram account. While that doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be Japan only, it just might be best not to get your hopes up.

But alas, here are how the clubs look on USGA’s conforming list.

Mizuno Prototype Version 1.1

Mizuno Prototype Version 2.1

Mizuno Prototype Version 3.1

What do you think of the new clubs? And why does the #5 appear on Prototype Version 2.1?

Would be strange for a 3w and 5w to have adaptors that say 8.5*. Definitely three different driver prototypes.

These are prototypes… and the production models may differ slightly.

Who wrote this article? The pictures obviously show a driver and 2 fairway woods. Not 3 drivers.

    I’m guessing that it’s because it’s a 5 wood.

Well, if you hold prototype 2.1 upside down and in a mirror, that 5 might just almost look like a 2…
