Justin Thomas used Rickie Fowler’s backup putter on Friday at the Wells Fargo
After putting poorly en route to a Thursday 73 at Quail Hollow Club for the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship, Justin Thomas switched to Rickie Fowler’s backup Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter for the second round, according to multiple reports.
Thomas went from minus-0.783 strokes gained putting during the first round, to plus 0.708 SGP in the second round (2-under 69) with 29 putts. He was previously putting with a Futura X5 that he’d been using since his 2017 PGA Championship victory at the same venue.

According to the Golf Channel, Fowler had this to say about Thomas using his backup: “If he wants to keep using it, [he can] keep using it, but he’s stuck with having my name on the back of it.”

Yes, it’s a plain Cameron Anser2 shape with a tri-sole. No face inserts, no weird milling, no weird alignment. Just plain. Of course Cameron will not sell this to the retail customer.
