Odyssey’s new EXO 2-Ball, Works Red and Black, and Toulon putters

Published

on

There’s one thing Odyssey has never struggled with: giving golfers options. Today, the company launched a trunk-full of new putters, including eight Works Red and Black putters, Toulon Atlanta and Portland models, and an Odyssey EXO 2-Ball putter that gives the classic 2-ball design a very new, and premium look.

Most of the new putters, actually, are mallets. More specifically, they are mallets that Odyssey says feel like blade putters; that’s because they’re made with toe hang (like a blade putter) rather than face-balanced designs of typical mallets. Toe hang frees up the face of a putter to open and close, a stroke-style that many golfers employ — amateurs and pros alike.

According to Austie Rollinson, chief designer of Odyssey, there’s been a trend of blade users on Tour switching into mallets because of this toe hang, and that will continue to happen. Odyssey says that of the PGA Tour wins last year, 29 winners used mallets — 14 of those were mallets with toe hang — while there were 20 blade winners. Also, of the top-50 in Strokes Gained: Putting, 31 players used mallets, 13 of which were toe-hang mallets, and 19 players used blades.

Therefore, many of the new putters from Odyssey are toe-hang mallets. Check out all of the new putters below, with info on design, pricing and release dates.

Odyssey Works Red and Black putters

The new Works Red and Black putters — adding on to the line of putters released in 2017 — continue to use microhinge face inserts that are designed to “grab” the ball to impart more topspin on the golf ball to get it rolling faster. The new offerings launched today include a No. 1 Wide S, No. 1 Tank, No. 7 Tank, 2-Ball Fang, Marxman, Marxman S, Jailbird Mini and Jailbird Mini S.

They will sell for $199 with a standard Winn AVS midsize pistol grip, and $219 with a SuperStroke grip starting on February 23.

Odyssey EXO 2-Ball

The new EXO 2-Ball, made with Rose Gold PVD, is a premium version of the iconic 2-ball shape. It’s CNC-milled with a microhinge insert, has an aluminum crown with a steel sole plate and Tungsten in the rear portion of the head. The EXO 2-ball also has black circles instead of the familiar white color for which 2-balls are known.

According to Odyssey, it’s a “statement product,” and it will only sell 5,000 of these putters globally. They will sell for $499.99 starting on February 2.

Odyssey says: “Our new Odyssey EXO 2-Ball is a premium limited edition putter unlike any we’ve ever offered. It combines one of the game’s most innovative and iconic putter designs with top-notch materials and meticulous production to create something truly special.”

Toulon Atlanta and Portland

Odyssey’s premium putter brand continues dipping its toes in the mallet style with its new mid-mallet Atlanta and Portland models. They have gunmetal finishes and are 100-percent milled from soft, 303 stainless steel. They also have Toulon’s familiar diamond-milled faces for improved roll.

The Atlanta and Portland models will sell for $399.99 apiece and hit retail on February 2.

Fact is either you can or you can’t and a high price, some up to 500 Bucks, are just show pieces. Find an old ANSER which all the new stuff is copies of and enjoy. Of course for people with the Bucks, who cares.

How does a manufacturer go about making a face balanced mallet putter toe hang?

Connecting a straight shaft to a mallet head by the use of a slant hosel typically these days. For example: Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, and Jon Rahm’s (many other players also play it) TaylorMade Spider Tour putters

…. and why do they have to engrave “MICROHINGE FACE INSERT” on the putter? Seems self-evident :-p

…. and at the horrendous prices for these silly abominations they still don’t come with an instruction manual. They hook sucker gearheads with color, shape and “feeel”.
    Caveat emptor ….. 😮

Tour Edge launches new Hot Launch E522 and C522 metalwoods

Published

on

Tour Edge has today announced the launch of its new Hot Launch E522 and C522 metalwoods, featuring extreme MOI properties with a major emphasis on ease of launch, playability while correcting mishits and slices to go straighter.

Hot Launch E522 Metalwoods

The new metalwoods from Tour Edge contain Houdini Sole technology, with the design pushing weight back as much as is possible in a driver design, according to the company.

This design creates extra mass, which helped Tour Edge engineers to position weight in the head for an ultra-low and deep CG, optimizing launch conditions in design to provide maximum forgiveness off the face.

The Hot Launch E522 metals feature Diamond Face 2.0 technology with 42 different thick and thin diamond shapes behind the face of the metals in design to offer an enhanced sweet spot.

The Diamond shapes of varying thickness create “mini-trampolines” behind the face, combining with a Cup Face construction that seeks to produce greater face flex, faster ball speeds and better performance on off-center hits.

The offset design of the metalwoods is combined with a sole heel weight in design to provide ultimate slice fighting technology.

In addition, the strategically placed heel draw-bias weighting of the E range allows the face to square up at impact in a bid to offer straighter ball flight that helps right-handed golfers avoid the right side of the course, and left-handed golfers avoid the left side of the course.

The super-shallow face design also seeks to produce higher launch angles with extreme ease of launch. Led by its extremely high MOI rating, the E range metals from Tour Edge are designed to be extremely stable and powerful. This increased MOI aims to both increase ball speed on mishits while keeping shots straighter, with the back and low CG positioning also helping to provide greater launch.

Tour Edge’s new E522 metalwoods also feature Control Length shafts that have been optimized with shorter shaft lengths that were designed specifically for the E range metals to greatly improve accuracy, control and to offer maxed out Smash Factor ratings for the clubhead.

Hot Launch C522 Metalwoods

The C522 metalwoods feature the same Diamond Face Technology as in the E522 woods, while a back weight is strategically placed to the extreme rear of the C522 driver, fairway, and hybrid.

The extreme rear weight is housed in an all-new Deep CG Casing that places more mass at the extreme trailing edge of the clubhead. The back weight and Deep CG Casing creates an extremely high M.O.I. rating designed for top in-line stability, while the lower and deeper CG positioning of the club aims to affect ease of launch while offering forgiveness off the face at impact.

The C522 metalwoods offer upgraded acoustic engineering through Acoustic Resonance Channels (A.R.C.) Engineering. The A.R.C. sound channel system is a visible technology that can be seen on the sole of the clubhead. Internally, these channels bounce sound on the inside of the clubhead in design to provide excellent sound and feel.

In addition, the Power Channel on the sole of the club behind the clubface is deeper in a bid to provide better weight distribution and increased face flexing, while the Power Channel also seeks to deliver amplified ball speed, and less spin, as well as added forgiveness on shots struck lower on the face.

The C522 metalwoods from Tour Edge come stock with super-light Fubuki HL graphite shafts by Mitsubishi Chemical that range from 45-grams to 60-grams depending on the flex.

The new TourEdge metalwoods arrive at retail on October 1 and cost $249.99 for both the E and C drivers, $159.99 for both E and C fairway metals and $139.99 for the E and C hybrids.

New E522 and SuperSpin Vibrcor wedges from Tour Edge

Published

on

Tour Edge has today introduced its new E522 and SuperSpin Vibrcor wedges which will hit retail on October 1st.

Hot Launch E522 Wedge

The extreme game improvement Hot Launch E522 wedge features a super-wide Houdini sole that puts more weight below and behind the ball in design to make it extremely easy for players to get the ball into the air and out of tough lies.

With its curved leading edge, the Houdini sole is designed to reduce turf interaction by 35% in order to promote a “no-dig” design leading to significantly cleaner contact.

The super-wide sole and heavier head weight of the E522 Wedge aims to also help to eliminate flubs for superior contact while providing versatility by adding performance benefits to all types of shots around the green from all turf conditions.

The wedge features a “super-deep” undercut cavity that lowers the Center of Gravity in design for enhanced forgiveness, while mass has been redistributed for enhanced flight control and to create a higher launch with increased spin from the rough and sand.

An oversized face design on the E522 wedge offers a greater striking area for enhanced consistency and accuracy while also raising the MOI for tight precision around greens and enhanced playability.

The full-face coverage grooves of the E522 Wedge are maximized to USGA depth and sharpness and are designed to provide enhanced spin and control across the entire face of the wedge.

Hot Launch SuperSpin Vibrcor Wedge

The new Hot Launch SuperSpin wedge is an extremely forgiving wedge for every level of golfer looking for more control in their short game.

This cavity back wedge will be available in six lofts (50-60 degrees) featuring Vibrcor technology that is designed to provide a soft feel at impact that will also provide more control around the green.

Vibrcor is a high-grade TPU strategically placed in the deep undercut pocket that is a new speed-inducing and feel-enhancing internal technology.

The technology creates a distinct feel of the clubhead at impact that dampens sound and shock while also creating perimeter weighting around the entire clubhead in a bid to provide maximum forgiveness, power, and ball speed enhancement off the face.

The new wedge contains a beveled leading edge that seeks to reduce digging, making for a versatile design for every type of wedge shot.

A cambered sole on the SuperSpin wedge aims to offer a glide across the turf, with the more rounded sole designed to help especially from tough lies and bunkers. Extra weight is centralized behind the top portion of the face, with the added weight in the upper center of the face expanding the sweet spot vertically, so shots struck higher on the face maintain control and feel.

In addition, the wedges feature computer-milled grooves that are at the maximum depths allowed by the USGA, which are designed to provide excellent control and spin around the greens.

The E522 and SuperSpin wedges will be at retail from October 1st and are priced at $89.99 per wedge.

Tour Edge unveils new E522 and C522 irons

Published

on

Tour Edge has introduced its new E522 and C522 irons in its new family of 522 clubs which the company describes as “The easiest clubs you’ll ever hit”.

Hot Launch E522 Iron (Iron-woods)

The E522 irons feature a new Houdini Sole in conjunction with a super-shallow face, slice-fighting offset design, and heel weighting in design for added draw bias.

The raised steel mass area of the Houdini Sole at the rear of the iron head reduces the amount of sole area in a bid to reduce drag and turf interaction. Per Tour Edge, the Houdini Sole design element has proven to be one of the most effective technologies at getting balls out of tough lies by reducing turf interaction by 35%.

The hollow-body perimeter weighting aims to provide players with distance properties of a metalwood in an iron design for maximum ball speed, while the hollow body design makes for an extremely low and back Center of Gravity, which seeks to create a very forgiving and robust face.

The E522 irons feature a super-shallow Cup Face design which is designed to produce higher launch angles and extreme ease of launch. This super-thin forged face design seeks to offer the ultimate in enhanced launch characteristics, with extreme ease of launch, increased apex heights, hang time and distance all targeted.

In addition, the offset design of the E522 irons aims to work in conjunction with the heel weight in the clubhead to help players avoid hitting slices and increase launch conditions.

The E522 Iron comes stock with a Fubuki HL graphite shaft by Mitsubishi that ranges from 50-grams to 60-grams depending on the flex. It is also available in a KBS MAX 80 steel shaft.

Hot Launch C522 Iron

Constructed of 431 stainless steel, the C522 irons are designed to offer maximum distance, forgiveness and soft feel in a traditional cavity back design.

At the heart of the C522 iron is the new Vibrcor technology that comes to the Hot Launch line for the first time with this iron.

Vibrcor is a high-grade TPU strategically placed in the deep undercut pocket in design to create a new speed-inducing and feel-enhancing internal technology.

The technology creates a distinct feel of the clubhead at impact that dampens sound and shock while also creating perimeter weighting around the entire clubhead in a bid to offer maximum forgiveness, power and ball speed enhancement off the face.

In addition, the deep 360 degree Undercut Cavity bids to promote a myriad of game-enhancement benefits in a classic iron design. The expanded undercut cavity is designed to provide maximum forgiveness and consistent performance. At the same time, it also seeks to offer an increased repulsion effect for high-speed power off the face and a higher launch angle and enhanced forgiveness.

The C522 irons feature a wide sole design that lowers the Center of Gravity in design to offer excellent bounce and increased launch for cleaner, high-flying shots. The wide sole design also seeks to provide cleaner turf interaction for more consistent shot-making.

The advanced toe weighting technology in the C522 Iron aims to maximize stability on impact and provide better off-center hit distance from the face of the iron, while the strategically placed toe weight is designed to elongate the sweet spot and provide a pure feel off the face of the irons.

The lower and deeper Center of Gravity allowed the C522 irons to be power-lofted for added distance and lower spin with the same launch characteristics as a standard lofted iron to complete the irons.

The Hot Launch E522 and C522 arrive at retail on October 1 and are priced at $79.99 per iron for the C522 irons, while the E522 irons will retail for $99.99 per iron.
