Jason Day wears Jordan 1s and joggers at The Open… THE OPEN!
Listen, I’m all for being progressive with fashion in golf. I get the push to make golf wear more relaxed, and I applaud the efforts to attract more youth golfers; “Make golf cool again,” and all that. I comprehend what’s going on.
But it’s The Open Championship! In my opinion, it’s not the appropriate event to bust out the all-white, high-top Jordan 1 golf shoes and joggers, as Jason Day did in round 1 of the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale this morning.

According to Golf History Today, the first ever Open Championship was held in 1860 at Prestwick in Aryshire, Scotland. It was won by Willie Park Sr., who beat out Old Tom Morris by two shots. This was the scene at that year’s event.
The Open Championship has the richest history of any golf tournament in existence. You know: Old Tom Morris, Young Tom Morris, the Old Course at St. Andrews, the Claret Jug!
Am I saying every Open participant needs to wear a cardigan with a tie as Justin Thomas did in round 1?
No, I’m not saying that. But even the loudest, most progressive dresser on Tour, Rickie Fowler, is dialing it back a bit for the week.

I say we save the Jordans for normal Tour events in America, and embrace, or at least respect, the Open’s rich history while across the pond.
What do you think about Jason Day’s round-1 Open look?

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons
In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.
For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- btyh: “Holy offset.”
- Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
- bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing
As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.
Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.
What happens when 4 #PGATOUR pros take a day off?
Luckily, the cameras were rolling.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.

Must think he’s 16 yrs old . Don’t get it at all. But to each his own and more than likely makes millions in contract money to wear the stuff . But please not at the open. At least he had on flood pants in case it rained to hard.

You have golfers breaking the rules and not being penalized, they are playing in cold rainy and windy conditions which no golfer should have to, but it’s the ” open ” and your in an up roar because someone wears high top shoes? Wow unbelievable.

I don’t like the look. He looked uncomfortable in that outfit. I think Phil Mickelson always looks sloppy.

Any golfer that wears the stupid looking ankle pants, I have to root against. Too bad, I like Day and Fowler, and even Rory when he tried it. It’s just too feminine.

There’s a time and a place for everything, and I feel JD got it wrong this time. I also can’t help thinking that he didn’t feel comfortable in his outfit yesterday.

Didn’t he know this is a 146 year old tournament? Where equipment had changed, rules changed but you HAVE to stick to dress codes? Hahaha.
Took out those perssimon sticks and ballatas. No, dial it back to whatever they used on the 1st open.

I love how people say he looks like a clown or whatever witty adjective used to describe his clothing. These are probably the same guys who wear kaki, cotton cargo shorts, white socks and solid color shirts with black/brown shoes. Give me a break!!

are you saying you’re a progressive traditionalist? that you can pick and choose when to be progressive and when to be traditional? what about the rich history of golf attire in the USA, you say Open Championship est. 1860, what about the US Open est. 1895? what qualifies as rich enough?

I bet you wear a tank top and jorts to your probation hearing.
new stuff!!
Jul 20, 2017 at 12:29 pm
huh? what are jorts?
You didn’t understand… it’s ok, I’ll spell it out… why say embrace / respect The Open’s rich history and save Jordans for normal Tour events in America when America also has a rich history of golf and golf attire. Different cultures tend to romanticize each other while at the same time we forget our own history and culture.
