Rory making multiple equipment changes ahead of the Masters
Rory McIlroy, the No. 2-ranked golfer in the world who’s still looking for his first Green Jacket, has made a few equipment changes before the Masters. According to The Guardian, McIlroy switched from his Callaway GBB Epic fairway woods to TaylorMade M2 fairway woods.
From a photo in the GolfWRX forums (above), it appears McIlroy will employ an 2017 M2 Tour 3 Wood.
It also appears that McIlroy has changed irons. The photo above shows a Callaway Apex MB prototype iron that has a slightly different finish than the ones we photographed at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. For comparison, the photo below is an in-hand shot of his old irons; you’ll notice the irons he has in play at The Masters have a more chrome look than the raw-finish irons he’s been playing.
Note: As commenter “bal” points out, the new irons also appear to be stamped with McIlroy’s nickname “Rors” and not his initials, “RM.”

The combination of Course knowledge, ball striking and luck will win. Not the Clubs and Ball, but the person who puts it all together this week and has good Luck.

He has changed to TM M2 as the ball he is using is a tiger spinning ball and he wants to work his woods around Augusta, hence switching to TM M2 from Call Sub. He said all this in an interview, so not my opinion. Smart play really, especially when you don’t have to play what your club contract tells you. Gives him an advantage on every course to pick the best sets that suit the course and his game.

There supposed to have some rain. I bet he got a sey very similar (finish aside) that has a littler more bounce for the soft conditions.Takes time to adjust to new sticks usually so thats a really big statement. Either he was having some really bad problems with his Callaways or he is flat out in love with the Taylor Mades.

Will he hit that 3 wood on the 10th tee?

I’m guessing the irons might have different bounce angles for the course.

I always seem so behind on these things; but has anyone even seen a 13.5 degree 2017 M2 Tour head?
Pics, or it didn’t happen…

Also looks like the top edge on the new irons is straighter than the previous version. Maybe just the camera angle…

Wonder if it is something specific to this course? Maybe he draws that 3 wood really well for 2, 10, and 13?

Interesting. It also appears that he has “RORS” stamped on the back of his irons instead of “RM”
