Plenty of surprises in this year’s Golf.com Anonymous Player Poll

Published

on

Depending on your orientation, it’s either one of the best or worst pieces in the annual buffet of golf content. But regardless of your sentiments, there’s no disputing the Sports Illustrated/Golf.com Anonymous Player Poll is one of the most contentious data sets to hit the golf wire of the year.

And it’s back!

Of course, as the pros surveyed are anonymous; we have no real idea how representative the takes are. Regardless, the insights are interesting on two fronts: Confirming what you’d assume the consensus is on Tour (Phil Mickelson has the best short game, for example) and for their shock value.

We’ll skip over the predictable results (definitely check out the poll for those) and bring you some surprising perspectives from the anonymous player poll.

Without further ado, here are a few perspectives that surprised us.

  • Patrick Reed has the third-best short game on Tour.
  • Aaron Baddeley is still regarded as the second-best putter on Tour.
  • Charles Howell III is regarded as the best ballstriker on Tour by a healthy margin.
  • Nearly 60 percent of players don’t think the Tour should conduct blood tests for PED use.
  • Only 40 percent of players surveyed think the Tour should publicize fines and suspensions.
  • More than 60 percent of players surveyed think the PGA Tour should break from the USGA and play by its own rules.
  • 80 percent of players think Olympic golf should be a team competition.
  • 84 percent of players surveyed think slow play is an issue on Tour, but only 42 percent think Jason Day plays too slowly.
  • Only 30 percent of players surveyed think the modern ball flies too far.
  • 66 percent of players surveyed think Tiger Woods will win another event, but only 16 percent think he’ll win another major.

Head on over to Golf.com for the full survey.

Golf does not belong at the Olympics .

Interesting. CHIII has always been a great ball striker. Now if he could get his damn putter to work he might win some more. I also agree the Olympics should definitely be a Team Competition. Hopefully next go around it will be.

I think you got the Blood Testing comment wrong:
WRX: Nearly 60 percent of players think the Tour should conduct blood tests for PED use
Golf.com: Should the PGA Tour conduct blood testing?
    NO: 58%
    YES: 34%
    Don’t care/no comment: 8%

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
