The oldest club in your bag you actually use?

adams white hybrid

User Tacrispy asks, “What’s the oldest club in your bag you still use?” We’re not talking about Billy Baroo here (although Smails does use that antique to great effect), but rather a club you still lean on heavily. For his part, Crispy says it’s a 2011 Adams hybrid.

Interesting replies in this brand new thread that’s sure to gain traction. Check it out.

SLDR Anonymous

sldr s driver

Not to be insensitive toward actual anonymous addiction groups, but this “TaylorMade SLDR Anonymous” thread by Medic is superb. He begins:

“My name is Jim… And I used to love the SLDR…It started with some long drives. Some consistency. Some fun on the range and even during rounds. Sure, there was the occasional lost shot but I’m not a pro after all so it was easy to understand how a shot could go so astray. I invested in a shaft I have used in other drivers. And it helped. For a while.”

The rest of his post similarly funny as are the more than 70 replies. Check out the thread.

Perspectives on Mini Tours

12 things you don't know about the mini toursWRXer ConcentricDimples is perplexed by mini tours. Namely, he wonders, why there seems to be a large volume of people playing extremely good golf who aren’t on the Web.com Tour.

“Are there a bunch of people (tens of thousands) running around who can shoot 65 from the tips on a tournament course that are still a far cry from the PGA Tour?  Oh, and btw, do so while hungover and dehydrated?

The thread is worth reading for Rich Hunt’s reply alone. Check it out.

TW on Day’s slow play stance

Omega Dubai Desert Classic - PreviewsIf you didn’t catch Tiger Woods’ comments on Jason Day’s “I’m not going to rush” remarks, get in the loop here. Plenty of hot takes in the replies, perhaps none hotter than Dave 230’s perspective on Tiger Woods’ own “deliberate” pace: “But how can that be when Tiger is ‘great for the game’ but Day winning slowly is a ‘stain on the game’?” See the thread.

Best grip for sweaty hands?

weak right hand

You may think it’s dumb thread…until sweaty palms come for you.

MikeDMT writes: “My hands sweat like crazy when the temp gets above 85 degrees. I rotate through 4 or 5 gloves and don’t want to wear two. I like chipping and pitching without any glove at all.”

Plenty of WRXers have the same problem, and the replies are stellar (going well beyond grip advice). Have a look at the thread, if you’re in the “perspiring palms” group.

Olimar Tri-Metal 3 wood i picked up for $5 at swap meet.

I can still pump this club out 290+ flush off the tee (in summer) and i’ll be 40 next year!

the newest club in my bag is Callaway X Hot with project x shaft. still use callaway edge forged irons.

My setup suits me and is good enough to stay competitive playing once a month. Best finish to date was a few years ago at the “Experience” course on Lanai. (the one on valcano) EPIC battle with the buddies. Carry overs abounded on chip ins, long puts, and crazy and relentless competition. I ended up sinking a 12′ put for $385. EPIC!!!

new clubs are over rated. just like the price of country club memberships : /

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
