Tiger Woods pulls out of Genesis Open and the Honda Classic

Published

on

Tiger Woods announced on Friday that, based on doctors orders, he will not play in the Genesis Open or the Honda Classic as scheduled.

“My doctors have advised me not to play the next two weeks, to continue my treatment and to let my back calm down,” Woods said on his website. “This is not what I was hoping for or expecting. I am extremely disappointed to miss the Genesis Open, a tournament that benefits my foundation, and The Honda Classic, my hometown event. I would like to thank Genesis for their support, and I know we will have an outstanding week.”

Most recently, Woods withdrew from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic citing back issues after an opening-round 77. He revealed the state of his physical health ahead of the tournament in a pair of interviews, admitting he will never feel great again.

Woods says he will revisit his playing schedule after his back has been reassessed by the doctors.

Anyone who has ever had real back problems know what he is going through. I hope he can make a comeback. Yet I doubt that he will. There are still many things he could do.

Seeing all of the SHANKS in the reviews leads me to believe that yes we are growing tired of the drama with his back issues. Fred Couples deals with this too and you don’t hear him holding press conferences. Funny how these gym goers always have issues. Never remember jack or arnie w/d for things like that. Either you’re playing this week or you’re not.

So sad to see him go . He was a great champion. To really expect him to compete with the current group of top pros is not realistic. He looks terrible. I remember when he first started and he was long a loose and absolutely killed the ball. Now he looks muscle bound and stiff and cannot get out of his own way. Thanks for the memories.

Such a simple fix…..poor instruction equals poor results and boy has he been getting both…….

I have written about this for years, his back is hurting because of the huge wipe in his swing, I have taught some of the best players in the world and if you swing correctly, you can have a bad back and still compete, because swinging correctly puts no pressure on the back…just ask Rocco Mediate and Jim Colbert. So sad because this cat can still win easily…..several times…..what a waste of talent.

It is too late. Steve told me in 2000 he would wear himself out in 10 yrs if he didn’t slow down with the exercise and playing soldier like he was. Looks like it came true, Between that and Haney he is done.

Yes, Steve. His swing is awful. All of that compressing and jumping up at impact is a poor way to play and very hard on the body.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinions I get that. Probably the reason I play golf is Tiger. I care only for the golfer, not the husband, father, or businessman. I guess we are all freaking saints, I wish him well… I’m assuming when DJ, Phil, Rory, and or Jason suffer with ailments you can bash them too.

Can they just get on with prematurely admitting him to that wacky (pre-retirement) Hall Of Fame so we can get on with the new band of players? And WHY is the tour so adamant about admitting unretired current players to said HoF? Is it some dumb marketing tool, or what?

SMH. Steroids statement again eh? When will you guys learn. You want to see steroids, go to a Golds gym or a Mr Olympia event. Not 185 pound Tiger.

Lance Armstrong isn’t a 250lb behemoth and he was an the juice. If you’re not lifting weights (purely for hypertrophy) or eating food like a bodybuilder, you’re not going to look like one.

Listening to his interview, he seems resigned to the fact he is physically beat up, in pain, and will have a difficult time competing. I wonder if Taylormade has an contract clause that kicks in depending on Woods’ ability to play.
