Published

on

The GolfWRX forums exist so golfers have access to the latest equipment releases, hottest discussions, real equipment reviews, best instruction, new technologies and everything golf you can imagine. So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz. Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.

What should we cover at the PGA Merchandise Show?

2015 PGAM Show

WRX will have golf spikes on the ground for the 2017 PGA Merchandise Show (January 24-27). If you’ve been to the show or seen our coverage in the past, you know that the buffet of vendors and booths puts Golden Corral to shame.

We can’t cover everything, so if there’s something in particular you want photos of or our staff to check out, let us know! See the thread.

“What Tiger’s testing” rumors

Mizuno-Logo-1024x540

GolfWRX Member DLaake started a thread on the heels of rampant rumors from the Twitterverse that the Big Cat is testing Mizuno irons. See what WRXers are hearing and what they have to say. Check out the thread.

Ben Hogan reorganization discussion

Ben-Hogan-PTx-Iron-1280x850

The Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company laid off about 30 employees at the beginning of a reorganization effort in early January. What exactly will the reorganized company look like? Nobody’s sure, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate. Many excellent perspectives in this thread.

Ah, yes. A much-needed resource for all those in the throes of an addiction to researching, purchasing and testing golf equipment. Ghost5’s initial post/introduction makes this thread immediately worthwhile. Seriously, just go read it now. The thread.

59 ain’t what it used to be…or is it?

justin-thomas-59

Edresnick poses an excellent question:

“When Al Geiberger shot the first 59 in PGA Tour history at the Memphis Classic he shot 13-under on a par-72 course. Justin Thomas’ 59 was a 11-under on a par-70 course. An amazingly great round, but is it the same as what Geiberger did? Should we be celebrating 11-under the same way we do 13-under?”

To see what WRXers think, check out the thread.

I’m thinking there must be some company somewhere, may be one of the indoor Simulator companies, that have worked with 3D modeling camera rig companies and force-plate companies to capture player golf swings in 3D for complete analysis and video capture?

Id like to see someone do a cost analysis breakdown of the real numbers and actual money it takes to make a competitive driver. I’m SO SICK of seeing these north of $600 for major brand drivers! I will just keep hitting my 10 year old FT 5-wood off the tee in protest. I still get a very consistent 250 yards out of it, and 95% of the time I’m in the short grass of the correct fairway. Why should I have to be told financing options when it’s time to buy a new big stick?

…… because in that 10 years you could have saved enough every month, every year, to buy a new one at current inflationary costs which would have meant you didn’t spend any money at all. You know, the iPhone didn’t exist until 2007? That’s 10 years ago. But then the higher-priced expensive drivers from 10 years ago or even 15 years ago were at $500 (remember the Callaway ERC II? that was $500 in 2001!), in fact, so that hasn’t changed, and it didn’t have any adjustable parts at all! And have you noticed how much cheaper monthly cellular costs are now, compared to how it was 5 years ago for the same machine that does lot more? And you could even get a free cellphone, albeit two generations older, if you sign up for a new subscription? And in that same mold, you could buy a two-generation old driver for less than half price, so there is no excuse not to own some kind of a newer model driver and try to use a newer technology driver that is more forgiving and easier to hit longer than the ones from 10 years ago. So why not just buy a two-year old driver, that’s still newer than the one you might own from 10 years ago?
But hey, as long as you are happy with just an old 5 wood.

Sounds like he is happy. So your long-winded rant, while amusing, is worthless.

    The booth women. That’s all.
We see enough of equipment throughout the year and there are enough spy photos everywhere

Would be interesting to see the latest launch monitor technology. SkyTrak made launch monitors slightly more main stream but let’s see how the market has evolved .

…and see if Ernest got the bugs out of their <$2K launch monitor….WHAT'S NEW under 2500 that reads launch angle & spin MORE accurately than the offerings from 2 years ago that were 2+ degrees off from Tman or Fscope….

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
