Switch to blades to hit more greens?

Hogan irons

An interesting discussion in this one. How do you feel about this statement from Johnny409?

I have always struggled with hitting greens, until I switched to a bladed iron. Now I am fully aware how weird that sounds, but it is 100% true. Before I switched to blades, I had cavity back irons that were supposed to be more “forgiving,” but really this iron was just letting me get away with bad shots due to the larger sweet spot. Due to the blades smaller sweet spot I found that the more I practiced with the irons, the better of ball striker I became because I learned how to hit the center of the face.

With 120 replies in less than a week since posting, there are hot takes aplenty in this conventional wisdom-bucking thread.

Check it out.

WRX fashion files: Must you match brands?

antigua golf shirts

We don’t talk a ton about the Golf Style forum, but if you want your golf apparel-related questions answered and anxieties eased, this is the spot to go. At issue here: Whether a casual golfer ought to match the brand of shirt and pants/short, not from a fashion standpoint, but rather from a continuity standpoint. As AThompson_3, who started the thread, says, the brands have to match otherwise he “just feels weird.” Is he alone?

USGA vs. R&A: Who selects championship courses better?

Hole No. 6 at Royal Troon

Hole No. 6 at Royal Troon

One of golf’s age-old debates. Prsgtrman has an interesting take on the “courses of the Open rota versus U.S. Open courses” discussion. He thinks the USGA misses the mark by holding the majority of U.S. Opens at private courses, while the R&A does better by contesting its championships primarily at courses you can play. What do you think? Is this even true? If so, is it a superior approach? How much better are top-tier private courses in the U.S. than their public equivalents?

Many questions to answer and much to discuss in this one.

Check out the thread.

In praise of Stenson’s Diablo 3-wood…

Henrik

In case you missed the info, Henrik Stenson, who relies on his 3-wood rather than driver more often than not off the tee, isn’t exactly gaming his sponsor’s latest offering. Stenson’s Diablo Octane 3-wood was released in 2010. Seeing a guy lean so heavily on a six-year old club left an impression on WRXers, equipment enthusiasts that they are.

See what they had to say.

From the Forums: How are you liking TaylorMade’s Qi10 fairway woods?

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing TaylorMade’s new Qi10 fairway woods. WRXer ‘ace036’ plans on testing them in the next few weeks, saying: “from how they look from address and frame the ball is much more appealing to my eye versus my current Paradym fairway woods.” And our members have been sharing their positive feedback in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Edwardsr: “I got fit into the Qi10 core model with Ventus TR Black 8X and it’s absolutely amazing for me.During the fitting with my 12-15 swings with it, it was the most efficient combo I’ve ever tested, tons of 1.48 smash and 3 or 4 1.49 smash (which I don’t think I’ve ever gotten on 3 wood on a launch monitor).”
  • MiloMalt: “No complaints and so far only high praise for my Qi10 Tour 3 and 5 wood. I’m getting great numbers and a nice penetrating ball flight with great height whereas with my old TSi2 4 wood it was spinny and ballooning and short because of that.”
  • courcy75: “The Qi10 Tour 3 wood I just put in play has been outstanding for me. Finally found something I like as much as the 07 burner tp.”
