U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III filled out his 12-man team roster with experience, choosing Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson, Brandt Snedeker and Steve Stricker.

The picks come as no surprise to American golf fans, as D. Johnson and Snedeker has been playing well recently, finishing in the top six in the first two of the PGA Tour’s FedExCup Series events.

For Furyk, the 2012 Ryder Cup marks the first time in 15 Ryder Cup and President Cup events that the 42-year-old has required a captain’s picks. Furyk has struggled with his game since winning the 2010 FedExCup, but he posted an 11th-place finish at 2012 The Masters and a T4 at this year’s U.S. Open. He also finished strong at last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship, finishing T13.

Stricker has been one of the most consistent players on the Tour since winning Comeback Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007. This year he has posted seven top-finishes, including a win at the season opener at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

The most notable names left off this year’s team are Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan and Nick Watney. Fowler was a lightening rod for the 2010 Ryder Cup team. He was the youngest U.S. Ryder Cup player in the event’s history, and despite being four shots down to Europe’s Eduado Molinari with four holes to play in the singles matches, Fowler birdied the final four holes to halve the match.

Mahan won twice this year on Tour, but has struggled recently with only one top- finish in his last seven events.

Nick Watney won The Barclays, the first tournament of the FedExCup Series just two weeks ago, but his inconsistency in 2012 likely left him off Captain Love’s list.

The 39th Ryder Cup matches will be played Sept. 28-30 at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club’s No. 3 course near Chicago.
