The GolfWRX forums exist so golfers have access to the latest equipment releases, hottest discussions, real equipment reviews, best instruction, new technologies and everything golf you can imagine.

So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.

Discussing Jason Gore’s equipment…and Jason Gore chimes in!

So, our Tour photographer Greg Moore started a post about Jason Gore’s equipment and his switch to the new prototype Callaway XR 16 (with which he has picked up 18 yards).

A Callaway XR 16 prototype driver Gore called a "Sub Zero."

A Callaway XR 16 prototype driver Gore called a “Sub Zero.”

It was already cool enough that Greg had been having a back-and-forth text and phone chat with a tour pro about his artillery, but the thread moved into the upper echelons of coolness when Jason Gore himself joined the conversation.

Check it out.

And Jason Gore is participating in a live chat with GolfWRX members next Tuesday. You can submit questions via this thread, and if your question is answered, well, see below…

What putter did you just buy?

via Jmurph424

via Jmurph424

There are many threads in the GolfWRX forums you can return to again and again. The “What putter did you just buy?” thread is one of them for two reasons. One, you can see what GolfWRXers — some of the most discerning equipment buyers — are putting in their bags. Two, some grade-A putter pictures.

Have a look.

Scratch player with 700-yard advantage vs. Phil Mickelson. Who wins?

U.S. Team player Phil Mickelson hits an iron on the 10th fairway during the second practice round for the 2013 Presidents Cup golf tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, OhioObee started an interesting thread with this framing of the question above: “What do you think would happen? Would the scratch player stand a chance? What if it’s the scratch player’s home course and Mickelson has played it only one time previously?”

“Does the scratch player have any hope? If not, how many shots a side should he get from Mickelson to make it fair? Let’s say the course is rated 76 from the tees Phil is playing and 72 from the tees the scratch player is playing.”

The discussion is hot and so are the takes. Check it out.

Steph Curry’s family thinks he could be a pro golfer. Could he?

Chrismikayla started a thread referencing a story on The Post Game that says, which quotes the Warriors star’s father as follows.

“He really could [play golf professionally],” says Dell, who played 16 NBA seasons as a guard/forward. “When we play, he hits balls and we go out and it’s three summers in a row he’s put up scores in the 60s.

“If Steph got a golf coach and practiced and put in the time like he does in basketball, he could play. He’s really good. He’s that good. He doesn’t miss a lot of shots, and when he does, he can recover. He thinks he can make any putt he stands over.”

Chrismikayla is incredulous and doesn’t think Curry has a shot. What do you think? Voice your opinion.

The worst shot you’ve ever seen!

Great thread here. Started by thatboygaule in November of 2014 and still going strong. And while there are eight pages of brilliant replies, gaule’s opener is pretty strong.

“…mine would have to a member be at my club a few weeks back. He shanked a driver, perpendicular to the hole, hits a rock and rockets 50 yards up and backwards next to the 18th . Here is my impression of it…

Starts at X . blue arrow is direction of line and red is ball.”

Jason, many times we put a new driver or putter in play and think we have found the Holy Grail … then, not so much! It’s like the first few dates with a gorgeous honey … Holy Grail fades into, “What was I thinking?” How do you and your peers reduce that factor? Is it simply spending more quality time with the club, as opposed to the typical amateur? Does this work with women?

    Thanks,
    Ken L.

Jason, what aspects of your drivers and driving have changed since you won the 84 Lumber Classic in 05? (I drove you in the cart to the first tee in the final round when you won btw)

Better question, did you have any other equipment deals offered to you at the same time you went with Callaway. If so was the money the deciding factor or the equipment?

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
