Bettinardi releases Limited Edition BB28 Raw putters
Bettinardi has released 100 of its BB28 Raw putters ($450), which feature the company’s in-house Amber Oxide finish that prolongs the rusting process to give the putter a beautiful, rustic appearance.
The wide-body, blade-style putters are milled from mild carbon steel and use the company’s Super Fly-Mill Face. Each is equipped with a Fujikura Carbon Fiber putter shaft, a black leather stitch-back grip and a Made in the U.S.A. leather putter cover that tie together this very special, very limited release.
To purchase one, visit Bettinardi’s website. They’ll also be available in select Bettinardi retailers next week.

Spotted: Tommy Fleetwood’s TaylorMade Spider Tour X Prototype putter
Tommy Fleetwood has been attached to his Odyssey White Hot Pro #3 putter for years now. However, this week at the Wells Fargo Championship, we did spot him testing a new putter that is very different, yet somewhat similar, to his current gamer.
This new putter is a TaylorMade Spider Tour X head but with a brand new neck we haven’t seen on a Spider before. A flow neck is attached to the Spider head and gives the putter about a 1/2 shaft offset. This style neck will usually increase the toe hang of the putter and we can guess it gets the putter close to his White Hot Pro #3.
Another interesting design is that lack of TaylorMade’s True Path alignment on the top of the putter. Instead of the large white center stripe, Tommy’s Spider just has a very short white site line milled into it. As with his Odyssey, Tommy seems to be a fan of soft inserts and this Spider prototype looks to have the TPU Pure Roll insert with 45° grooves for immediate topspin and less hopping and skidding.
The sole is interesting as well in that the rear weights don’t look to be interchangeable and are recessed deep into the ports. This setup could be used to push the CG forward in the putter for a more blade-like feel during the stroke, like TaylorMade did with the Spider X Proto Scottie Scheffler tested out.
Tommy’s putter is finished off with an older Super Stroke Mid Slim 2.0 grip in blue and white. The Mid Slim was designed to fit in between the Ultra Slim 1.0 and the Slim 3.0 that was a popular grip on tour.

Tired of this “limited run” high-cost strategy. Especially when you know this actual putter head was probably cheaper to produce than their usual stuff.

No finishing but higher cost. Eh? I remember when certain upmarket car companies used to charge to fit dark trims instead of chrome.

It was very charitable of Bettinardi to issue it as a limited edition. That way they only rip off a few people.

This was an awesome deal James and I tried to buy one but being old I am not as fast as these kids. I guess I will wait a year for the resale price to come down from $2k to $500-600 and hopefully get one. Otherwise life goes on and I am still a huge Betti fan! Happy Holidays!

If interested. I have a new one that I won. Don’t have a lot of use for it because I love my Scotty Cameron. Let me know if you’re interested.

It’s crazy. We had 8 of these putters and sold out in two hours. I’ve never seen something go that fast first hand.

Looks nice, but how well does it putt the ball? What does it feel like in the hands? I guess it was only a matter of time until the price of a putter caught up with the price of a driver. No wonder golf is having a hard time attracting new enthusiasts. The price of admission is going into the stratosphere. Let me see…how many rounds of golf can I play for $450?

Considering the price point of their normal putters that is a pretty good deal.

Higher price for no finish seems less of a deal
