So, Holly Sonders is actually going to prom with Junior Am finalist
In this week’s edition of celebrities going to prom with fans, Andrew Orischak, Hilton Head High student will be attending his school’s prom with Fox Sports’ Holly Sonders.
Orischak had wagered the announcer that if he were to win the U.S. Junior Amateur, she’d attend prom with him. Making this worse/better, this Fox Sports piece makes it seem that the junior star’s father played a key role in negotiations: “Sonders said during FOX’s broadcast of Orischak’s quarterfinal match with Ryan Grider that Orischak’s father helped make the deal — Andrew, understandably, may have been shy — and she obliged.”
Way to go, dad! I guess?
The South Carolinians’ dream date looked to be dashed when Orischak lost the Junior Am final to Philip Barbaree in 37 holes.
But fear not! As Holly Sonders tweeted
What do we think about this? A teenage dream? Stupid? Couldn’t care less?
And what of this whole institution of asking a celebrity to prom?
Here’s a bit from Joe Lynch’s “Please Stop Asking Celebrities to Go to Prom With You” on Billboard.com:
[quote_center]
Aside from the awkwardness of a twentysomething artist (and their security contingent) joining a stranger for a night of dancing and being gawked at by hundreds of teenagers, there’s also the time obligation — and the fact that for the celebrity date, it’s more of a job than a relaxing evening.
So who decided it’s okay to ask strangers to prom simply because they’re famous? You wouldn’t pick a random person on Twitter and ask them to prom just because you two seem to like the same stuff. How did we collectively decide this made any sense?
[/quote_center]
So, another absurd pop-cultural snowball that’s only going to get bigger in our Web 2.0 world…
Odds they win prom king and queen?

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons
In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.
For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- btyh: “Holy offset.”
- Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
- bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing
As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.
Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.
What happens when 4 #PGATOUR pros take a day off?
Luckily, the cameras were rolling.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.

Doing anything she can to take our mind off of her lousy performance on Fox at the US Open. Horrible…

She’s doing something nice for the young man. Looking deeper into it is a waste of time. Furthermore, those that do should probably find something productive to do with their mind and time. I hope the they both have fun and life will go on.

I’m not sure I care about these arrangements in general. (Although my rule is that if the female celebrity in question is going to capitalize off the chance at free publicity, she has to go full whore and sleep with the young man in question. I hope very much that the hypothetical young man in that case is 18.)
But the real problem is that Holly Sonders is employed by Fox Sports. And Fox Sports contracts with the USGA to broadcast the USGA Junior. And that makes this stunt intolerable. A journalist, covering a national championship by the national sanctioning organization and the Legal Guardian of the Game of Golf.
This is not like a random pop star going to a prom with an ordinary, or even a special-needs kid or a special-case person (a survivor of personal trauma, a disease victim, a military service member, etc.; you get the idea). In that case, the random pop star and the kid have no other relationship of significance.
This violates about a half dozen basic rules of ethical journalism. Fox and the USGA together should say, very nicely and very firmly, “No. Holly is sorry, and we’re sorry, but Holly just didn’t think through this one very carefully, and she didn’t ask us, and after consideration it is clearly a bad idea. So, no; it’s not happening.”
And then Holly should spend prom night with me, enjoying the sorts of adult beverages that an 18 year old cannot.

Agree with Chuck. It may be a distance fantasy for me to be with Holly for the evening, at least I’m clearly over 18. Going to the HS Prom with an almost 30 year old married woman is hardly the stuff of lasting memories. I’d even bet his dad will now volunteer to be a chaperone at the event. Then there are the ethics of journalism and how this may affect the USGA. The best that can come of this is a non-event. How many ways can this go wrong?
