Monday Tour Mash: Spieth’s Dominance, Tiger’s New Angle, Dustin Threeagle
Jordan
Jordan Spieth led from start to finish. He has finished runner-up and champion in his first two Masters appearances. Spieth will no doubt be on the Wheaties box, Disney commercials and the bedroom wall of every kid golfer who wants to be the best ever. And yet, it’s one major championship, which puts him in a tie with hundreds of other golfers. Let’s not get crazy with predictions; instead, let’s celebrate a remarkable week of golf from a remarkable, 21-year old talent.
Tiger’s Chip-In: A New Angle
It seems that someone kept a great angle of Tiger’s inconceivable, 2005 chip-in under lock and key for ten years. In 2015, a tweet from The Masters released this angle from across the 16th hole green to the viewing public.
10 years ago, Tiger Woods holed out on No. 16 in dramatic fashion. Watch this historic shot from a different angle. https://t.co/5bnny62LBO

The Three Amigos Get Saucy
Ben Crenshaw got in the line of fire after missing the green on hole No. 1 of the Masters Par 3 contest
I’m not certain if they didn’t feed Arnie before or after he hit the opening drive of the 2015 Masters tournament, or if he was in rare form, but he and his two amigos (Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus) traded barbs and banter whenever a microphone was near. Of course, Nicklaus’ ace in the Par 3 contest certainly had to rankle Player and Palmer.
The Threeagle Gets DJ Moving
Dustin Johnson played his first major championship in a while and turned in a stellar T6 finish. Now, we know DJ is long off the tee and we know that he emulates Phil Mickelson in his take-chances approach to the game, but his par-five performance on Friday was other-worldy. He birdied the easiest hole on the course, No. 13, and made eagle on the remaining three par fives, to go minus-seven on the long holes. Johnson’s opening (double bogey) and closing (bogey) holes during Round 2 kept scoring records safe, however, as he shot 67 (5-under). Long exhale. Oh, by the way, they were his only three eagles of the week.
Rory
On Sunday, Bubba Watson admitted he was done. Rory never did admit that he didn’t have the mythic “A Game” but he did a fine job of deceiving us. McIlroy made six birdies and twelve pars on Sunday to finish alone in 4th place, six shots behind Spieth’s record-tying performance. Few golfers topped the Northern Irishman’s weekend performance of ten-under (68-66) and only Hideki Matsuyama tied him for low final round. If his weekday rounds of 71-71 had been mildly better, the lad might have made a run at a third consecutive major. Rors is still the man to beat in the U.S. Open in June at Chambers Bay.
Missed The Cut/Did Not Finish
Best Major Ever?
Even though Jordan Spieth won by four and led by six as late as the 13th hole, it never felt like a runaway for the Texan. Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson lurked all day long, applying external pressure. Tiger made a welcome return and was around for a while, Rickie Fowler made an appearance and Dustin Johnson threatened early in the back nine to be considered. It wasn’t the best major ever, but the other three will have to go a distance to have the star power of Masters 2K15.
