Rory McIlangelo? Golf Digest’s April magazine cover

Published

on

Golf Digest’s 2015 April Magazine cover features a photo of Rory McIlroy that replicates Michelangelo’s statue of David — with a little Irish/Masters flavor.

The cover looks like a mix between Michelangelo’s David in Florence…

Easy-History-Lesson-of-Michelangelos-David

…and this photo of Rory from the 2014 Ryder Cup celebration wearing a kilt, minus the red wig.

Rory-McIlroy-shirtless-wigThe feature story behind the cover talks about Rory’s increasingly intense fitness regimen, his mentality on winning and his chances at winning the Masters, and thus the career grand slam.

[quote_box_center]”…Rory McIlroy is right at home—high-tech fitness shirt straining across his broad back, vein-popping forearms, sharply defined jawline, curly locks cropped close. Everything is sleek, strong and stylish.”[/quote_box_center]

Based on quotes from Rory regarding the Masters, it sounds like he has some doubts going into Augusta, which would give McIlroy the career grand slam.

[quote_box_center]”A firm and fast Augusta, or a typical U.S. Open setup, is probably the most difficult test for me. It requires so much discipline and precision, and that’s something I’m still learning. I won a U.S. Open, but it was much wetter than normal, and even Hoylake was soft for a links. So if Augusta is fiery, winning there would get me closer to being a complete player, because I don’t think I’m there yet.”[/quote_box_center]

The world No. 1 ranked player, who’s won four majors by the age of 25, doesn’t believe he’s a complete player yet? That’s scary.

What do you think of Golf Digest's April 2015 magazine cover?

Personally, I think it’s a fun way to stick your face out of a crowd. Isn’t that the goal?

Funny how nobody complains when you stick a female up there, but golf digest makes a subtle point about fitness fat golfers freak out… These guys complaining are the same guys that will spend thousands on new equipment every year for a last years model that was painted white just to “gain a slight advantage”. However, won’t step foot in a gym bc it might actually require some hard work… Don’t think there’s a correlation between fitness and performance? Pull your heads out of your a$$. Stop whining because you can’t buy 125 mph club head speed in a store.

I hope for Rory’s sake that he doesn’t overdo the fitness, like another former No. 1 has done.

Golf is a fine degree between strength and suppleness. Nature gave Rory an ability to both hit the ball a long way, and also to hit finesse shots around and on the green.

It is probably a good idea to not fool around too much with Mother Nature.

Agreed. If WRX would upgrade it’s comment system we’d be able to bury guys like him in an avalanche of downward thumbs.

Lord Have Mercy. This sort of nonsense is why I did not renew my subscription. Much grave-spinning right now, no doubt. And that’s just the sports reporters.

You need to make more of the fact that you and Golf Digest are no more. I’d get away from them as fast as possible.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
