Ryan Palmer wraps golf balls in beer money

Published

on

Ryan Palmer is playing the role of “beer Santa” on Thursday at the 2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

According to a tweet he sent Thursday morning, Palmer will hand out a dozen golf balls wrapped in $10 bills to the fans at hole No. 16, with the note “Have a beer on me!”

The autograph is a nice touch, but the partygoers, frat stars, fans will surely get more enjoyment from the free drink.

To avoid any legal ramifications, Palmer clarified who qualifies as a recipient of the beer money.

He played on the Hawaii Pacific University Men's Golf team and earned a Masters degree in Communications. He also played college golf at Rutgers University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

Nice touch. More professional athletes should connect with the fans. As far as how the money is spent nobody is going to force anyone to drink if they don’t want to so let’s not try to make a nice gesture by a class guy out to be a bad thing.

Tour Pros interacting with fans… That’s how you grow the game of golf.

Lets give the drunks money to get even more hammered and not give it to kids who would think that was the greatest thing ever

Yes, a kid would probably appreciate it more. However, my point is when the Pros engage with fans (of any age) it brings more interest to the game.

Agreed! Some people always try to find the negative versus positive in everything.

The kids probably couldn’t get to the railing to get a ball (since the players can’t throw things anymore) – – the drunken adults would elbow them out of the way to grab the beer money – – 16 is not a sane place
