Rory makes first hole-in-one at Abu Dhabi

It might be hard to believe, but World No.1-ranked Rory McIlroy had never made a hole-in-one in professional competition until Friday’s round at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, when he aced the par 3, 15th hole.

McIlroy’s hole-in-one came en route to a second-round 6-under par 66, leaving him only two shots back of leader Martin Kaymer.

“It was a perfect number, straight downwind 177 yards, and it took a nice little hop to the right, so obviously the beers are on me tonight,” Rory said.

It should be noted that Rory’s perfect number, 177 yards, is for a 9 iron. It was downhill, but still…

On Thursday, Miguel Angel Jimenez also made a hole-in-one at No. 15 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. His salsa dance celebration continues to add to Miguel’s legend as the Most Interesting Man in Golf.
