Woods to make PGA Tour debut at Waste Management Phoenix Open

Published

on

Tiger Woods announced on his website that he will begin his 2015 PGA Tour season at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, which takes place Jan. 29 to Feb. 1.

“It will be great to return to Phoenix,” Woods said. “The crowds are amazing and always enthusiastic, and the 16th hole is pretty unique in golf.”

Woods last participated in the WM Phoenix Open in 2001. In three starts at the event, he has two top-5 finishes — T3 in 1999 and T5 in 2001. In 1997, Woods made a now famous hole in one at TPC Scottdale’s rowdy par-3 16th hole.

Woods has also committed to play in the Farmer’s Insurance Open the following week (Feb. 5-8) at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif., an event that he’s won seven times.

“Torrey is a very important place to me,” Woods said. “My pop took me there when I was younger, and I have a lot of special memories of watching the Tour play there when I was growing up.”

Woods last played an official PGA Tour event at the PGA Championship in August, where he missed the cut. After several months away to rehab a back injury, Woods returned to play in the Hero World Challenge in early December where he finished tied for last place in the 17-man field.

He needs to learn to manage his wasted social life so it’s a good place for him to start :-p

    Awesome! Can’t wait.

TPC Scottsdale is my favorite course in the world. If you have a chance go play it. Champions course or Stadium course, both are incredible, PGA Tour quality tracks.

Thx for playing Tiger. Why all the haters still? Tiger has done more the game then…. Oh wait a minute, Arnie did a hell of a lot for the game too, never hear anyone bashing Arnie for his off course exploits, I forgot he’s the KING I love him too though!

Arnie will NEVER beat Jacks record. He should be shunned. Hasn’t won a tournament in years, hate the guy. >>

Yes, can’t wait to see him ‘raise the roof’ again.

Also, a healthy TW is good for the game.

Wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have even touched a golf club.

Who cares – besides the guys selling tickets? No one else playing in the tournament? Guaranteed appearance money and media hype – enough already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i don’t understand the tiger hate. annoys me equally as well when guys gush over him , but like it or not the guy IS the needle in golf ratings. the guy IS relevant. The annoying hateful comments are both predictable and pathetic.

My husband is considerably older than me. He grew up watching Jack and has told me many times Tiger is better at almost everything. We may plan a trip to see him live if we can find a nice b&b for the weekend

Tiger Woods is the only guy in golf that really moves the needle. Good or bad people watch when Tiger plays. When he doesn’t people do not watch.

Tiger who? Tiger Woods? Is that the guy we keep hearing about who keeps on taking these new swings on? Just play golf dude… Wait! Only play events where people give you 6 mill to appear, now that’s playing golf, I guess.

Good for him, I hate it when he waits till majors. He should play as often as possible. People like to watch him play and he should appreciate that.

I hope he plays well. If he plays bad and gets boo’d I doubt we’d see him in Phoenix again.

picking up a few oldies that he has not played in yeas. But these tracks are pretty forgiving and should allow him to make mistakes early without being overly penalized for it.

Even if he gets behind a 500lb boulder:)

The event has been around since 1922, making it one of the oldest on the PGA Tour calendar. Over the years, it’s been held at a variety of courses across the Lone Star State, but it’s found its home at TPC San Antonio in recent years. Some of the biggest names in golf have taken home the title here, including Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Ben Crenshaw.

GolfWRX has its usual assortment of general galleries, WITBs and special pull-out albums. As always, we’ll continue to update the links below as more photos come in from TPC San Antonio.
