Dufner roasts Cowboys head coach on Twitter

Published

on

Jason Dufner put Dallas Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett on notice following the team’s playoff win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Garrett used a golf analogy in a post-game press conference to explain his decision to go-for-it on fourth down and six on the Lions’ 42-yard line with six minutes left to play in the wildcard game.

Screen Shot 2015-01-05 at 5.54.21 PM

To which the 2013 PGA Champion responded:

With his 2007 Masters victory, Zach Johnson showed the golfing world that laying up on every single par-5 during the week is a viable option. In turn, Jason Dufner, with his Tweet on Jan. 5, showed the football coach of America’s team that golf is different than football… although Phil Mickelson might disagree.

The highly controversial game between the Cowboys and Lions, which ended 24-20 in the Cowboys favor, involved some missed calls, penalty flags thrown, then penalty flags picked up, leaving the Lions organization up in arms (note: GolfWRX Headquarters is based in Detroit… so, yeah). Dufner chimed in on the referees’ questionable decisions and ensuing reactions.

But the real story, as far as the golf world is concerned, is that Dufner tackled the Cowboys’ head coach. Does Garrett care after winning his first playoff game as an NFL head coach? Definitely not, but he certainly learned a lesson in golf course management from a major champion.

Dufner also had this to say:

The USGA might have a small issue with that one, but point well-made.

Duff should take his own advice and stick to commenting on golf. How many golfers have won the Masters by laying up on every par 5? Probably just 1…Zach Johnson…at least in the modern era where the par 5’s are reachable in 2 by most golfers. Besides, that’s not what the analogy was suggesting. The coach was simply saying “I felt we had to be aggressive in that situation, much like a golfer would do when he knows he needs a birdie at the Masters.” Is Duff that dense that he couldn’t figure that out or is he just that big of a hater? Sorry Duff, you were out of line.

Actually if you read the article, Dufner never said to lay up on every Par 5. All he said was sometimes you need to lay up when you play at the Masters. Maybe you should watch the movie Tin Cup. It will help you understand why you dont always go for it on a Par 5

Cheers buddy. I never thought I’d see the line “maybe you need to watch the movie Tin Cup” in response to dumb comment but I sure am glad I did. Good stuff. Everyone needs to watch Tin Cup. That’s why it’s always on the Golf Channel.

I love it. Picking up that flag was a total joke but people related to the NFL are always crazy careful when it comes to criticizing the officials. The officiating has been laughable all year and I’ve been dying for someone with some fame to just explode and call it out. Dufner is going at it and I love it.

Here he is, literally Auburn’s finest, Jason Dufner

Duffner is such a douchebag, who gives a *%#! WHAT he thinks. Also needs to quit talking/tweeting like he’s some kind of gangsta thug. He’s the whitest whiteboy there is in addition to being an ignorant lazy slob. Youz needs to be stickin to golf, homey….

Harley, sounds like someone else should be labeled a douche, homey, Dufner’s tweets were pretty humorous. I think you need to get a life !!!!

I think we’ve found the douche. Are there seriously people in this world like Harley? How lame a life Harley must lead to feel the need to post what he did. What a pathetic person. Pretending like talking like a ‘gangsta thug’ is some kind of badge of honor first is beyond stupid, and second pretending that it is owned by blacks could easily be viewed as racist. get an education and stop being a tool

I agree, Dufner is pretty weak for a “celebrity.” Some of these idiots need to get off of twitter to keep everyone from realizing they are rednecks

Wow — there are trolls even on Golf WRX! For the record, Duf won the PGA (2013) going away, you coach-potato-unathletic-in-mom’s-basement losers. He was hurt this past year, caused him to pull out of Ryder Cup. And before you troll that, he was cash money at Medinah, was a huge loss to team this time around. I’ve talked to diehard Cowboy fans who were at the game and they all said it was the worst officiated game they’ve seen at that level. Whatever — Lambeau should be awesome, hoping it’s bitter cold and Jerry’s plastic face freezes into a perma-skeletor.

How bout them cowboys. What a game. Got to admit the game was like finding hundred dollar bills on the ground. I have’nt giggled in a long time. Jason Dufner we love you but were have you been? I miss that ball striking and cool attitude. Enough of the wife and more top tens.

Duf just flat out stinks at golf . A failure on and off the course imho

Something to get attention and maybe get sponsors when his exemption runs out

Apparently Duf has never seen a ref pick up a flag in the NFL – – yea, Jason, it happens all the time. They could have called anything they wanted on that play, for either side. #MutualGroping

It was the first time a flag has ever been picked up *after the call was announced and the ball had been moved forward. Could care less about Duff’s tweets but your comment makes no sense.

Haha…. he is going to duck hook one in the water? Probably won’t win with thoughts like that.

Maybe if Duf spent a little more time working on his game, rather than laying around watching football, eating hot dogs & drinking beer, he might actually be in good enough shape to make it through a full season of the PGA Tour. And I’d love to see Duf go out and play a few plays with the NFL boys. He’d be permanently “Dufnering” because he’d never be able to walk again!
Man Up Dufner & Stick to Golf & leave the NFL to the BIG BOYS!!

There are bad breaks in all sports and life. It’s the ones that overcome that become champions. Detroit had plenty of chances to put the game away. Detroit was like Greg Norman at the Masters, couldn’t finish.

Speaking of picked up flags… Detroit had a suspension lifted on the dirtiest player in football. Karma. It’s a b*tch.

+1. Plenty of holding calls on the Dallas receivers missed the whole game, I might add.

Thing is, there was hardly any contact on the play in question and contrary to popular belief, faceguarding is NOT illegal in the NFL. You only have to turn your head around in college not in the pros. Dufner just sounds like a sour grapes sort of guy.

Duf wished he could put at least as well as Jason. Perhaps then he would stop giving away putters during rounds. He is the best current golfer who cannot make a 3 foot put.

Dufner looks more like a football than someone who could actually play football. Go practice your putting.

It was a metaphor about getting to the Masters, not how to play the Masters. Get over it Duf, your team got beat.

    • truspike

      Jan 5, 2015 at 10:22 pm

For the record Jason Dufner’s team is the Cleveland Browns, not Detroit. And it is about how to play the Masters as he mentioned Zach’s strategy on that course. Intelligent comments please.

        Jan 6, 2015 at 9:21 am

Intelligent comments, indeed! Jason Garrett said, “When you get a CHANCE to go play at the Masters…”, not, “WHEN you are playing the Masters”.

Both you and Duf could a little more reading comprehension.
