Press Release: Cleveland Golf’s Almost Belly Putter A Perfect Solution In Belly Putter Controversy

Published

Press Release:

There’s so much uncertainty surrounding belly putters right now. The USGA and R&A are discussing whether the act of anchoring putters to the body – a key benefit of the belly – should be banned. High-profile professionals and prominent golf figures all over the world are constantly considering the fairness of belly putters.

It’s a significant point of contention with no clear resolution in sight.

But one thing’s for sure: Whether or not these popular, tour-proven putters are made nonconforming, Cleveland Golf has made sure all players can still gain belly-style stability and consistency on the green thanks to the Almost Belly.

Available in Cleveland’s Classic Collection putter line, the Almost Belly features a traditional blade head in a putter 39 inches long. This length does allow golfers to anchor the putter to their body, but this putter was specifically designed to provide belly-style stability and consistency without anchoring.

This is achieved thanks to weight distribution. The Almost Belly features a 400-gram head along with 21-inch large diameter grip, creating a balance that can be felt throughout the putting stroke. This balance inspires confidence from the moment the first putt is rolled.

“When we saw the unique performance gains of the Almost Belly, we knew it would be a hit in the marketplace,” said Adam Sheldon, Cleveland Golf Brand Manager. “Who knows how the belly putter debate will end, but we know we have a superior product that’s immune to any sanctions regarding anchoring to the body.”

Unlike many other longer putters, the Classic Collection Almost Belly is built with toe-down head weighting to promote a more easily repeatable arc putting path.

Available in a sleek Black Platinum finish, the Classic Collection Almost Belly also has heel-toe weighting to limit unwanted head twisting on off-center strikes and a CNC milled face in a 17-4 stainless steel body for soft, responsive feel. The large grip also accommodates a wide variety of putting styles.

The Classic Collection Almost Belly putter is available now with a listed minimum advertised price (MAP) of $129.99. Images of the Classic Collection Almost Belly putter:

I tried eight different Belly putter styles a couple weeks ago and found the 39″ Cleveland Almost Belly putter one that felt terrific, especially due to the heavier weighted head.

I found one on ebay and got it for $46! 1/3 of the MSRP!

Spotted: Nate Lashley’s Ping PLD “Wolverine” putter

Published

on

Ping PLD putters have been a very common site on profesional tours. Pros seem to gravitate toward the PLD line’s custom options and precision milling. We have seen the PLD line expanded over the years, but we haven’t seen too many, if any, large mallets.

This week we spotted a PLD putter in Nate Lashley’s bag that has a similar look to the old Ping Wolverine head shape. This putter is a large mallet with the famous “claws” on the outside and oval center that housed the alignment aid.

Nick’s putter has the PLD logo on the back but also looks like it might have an insert installed on the face. It is hard to tell but at the address picture, it looks like the face is a lighter material than the rest of the putters. The putter is center-shafted and should be face-balanced with a high MOI for stability and forgiveness on mishits. The sole is completely milled and has no markings of name or technologies that might be present in the head. A single white site line is on the top of the putter for alignment.

Nick’s putter is finished off with a chrome steel shaft and a Super Stroke Zenergy Flatso 2.0 grip in black and white.
