I see Brendan Steele just tweeted there,
“Starting to get really excited about the new 913 gear, cant wait to get it in the bag!”
Anyone got any info or pics/links to what we could be looking at and when? Sounds like it could be sooner than we thought

• Will be two heads for each club. Driver/fairway/hyrbrid.
• The new 2nd hybrid will be smaller, lower launching and more of a player’s hybrid. Driver and fairways will follow the same model as the current line.
• Will all be adjustable
• Current adapter will work
• Redesigning the adapter to look smaller and so when you adjust it the shaft and grip will not rotate, just the adapter.

Tony Finau’s short driver backswing – Would he be the longest on tour by a distance if he wanted?

In our forums, our members have been discussing the driver distance Tony Finau generates with his short backswing. WRXer ‘TIScape’ posted a photo of Finau on 18 at Riviera at the top of his backswing from Sunday (above) and says:
“It amazes me how far Tony hits driver with his short backswing. This is a still from a video of his drive at 18 on Sunday at Riviera. Captured at the very top of his backswing. It’s almost as if he’s laying up with driver, and he still averages 306 yards! The clubhead speed he generates with that short swing is astonishing.”
Back in July, Finau showcased his fully extended driver swing in a practice round. The result? 206mph ball speed and a ridiculous 383-yard carry.
Check out the video below.

Our members have been discussing both his current driver swing and whether Finau could be comfortably the longest on tour if he wanted.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- chipa: “His swing is fun to watch. One thing I have noticed about a lot of big hitters is the forward hand position like Finau’s and then turning the left hand over immediately during the takeaway. DJ Johnson, John Daly, Mike Austin and quite a few long drivers use(d) this technique. I use it when I’m swinging my best and hope to have it mastered sometime soon. I have tried everything like the one piece takeaway, but I just can’t make it work and feel relaxed too.”
- bscinstnct: “Man, if Tony could just get a little more confidence on Sunday with his putter. He’d basically be DJ. Just want to see him play his best a few times; he’d really light it up.”
- mosesgolf: “TF said in an interview that he can easily attain 190plus ball speeds but won’t go there due to consistency and accuracy issues. Plus, it’s an avenue for injury to swing that hard.”
- cardoustie: “Longest on tour if he wanted to be.”

What GolfWRXers are saying about the best game improvement irons for seniors

In our forums, our members have been discussing game improvement irons for senior players. WRXer ‘Jjfcpa’ kicks off the thread with his pick, saying:
“Apex 21’s standard / DCB combo – I just received these a few weeks ago, and I’ve only hit them indoors, but there are a few things that I prefer with these over the T300’s. The feel is softer, especially when hitting the sweet spot. Distance is a little longer, and they seem to have better dispersion. I’m definitely going to start the season with these and see if they can replace the T300’s. My feeling is that they can.
I’ve previously played the Apex CF19’s, and they were just great when you hit the sweet spot but lack some forgiveness that I needed. The Apex 21’s seem to have improved in that area.”
He asks WRXers what they feel are the best game improvement irons for seniors, and our members have been responding in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- NCDuffer: “I had 2015 Ping GMax. Forgiving, so forgiving. Feel not so much. Those and the Callaway Steelheads from 2016 are the most forgiving I’ve hit. Favorite, I’m like you in that I switch from super game improvement. I’m now swinging Maltby TS-1s as the feel is fantastic, forgiveness is good, tad longer, spin is better, and dispersion is much better.”
- mpm1960: “There was a line of Callaway clubs in 2019 for seniors, the Epic Flash Star drivers, fairways and hybrids, and the Epic Forged Star irons. XXIO also makes clubs for seniors, last year’s X line and this year’s Eleven line. Lastly, Cobra has their F-Max Airspeed line of clubs … what they all have in common is their extremely lightweight design so seniors can regain the yards they’ve lost through the ageing process.”
- trapsmv15: “Not a senior but swing as fast as the stereotype of one (80-90mph, driver 200y 7 iron 125-130y carry. Ping is just always soooo good in that area. I could go with almost any of their irons tbh. XXIO should get some love here too, as a dedicated brand to the slower swinger. And I could also see Titleists T400 being awesome (I know you played the 300). I’ve switched to a full Callaway bag this year, though, and the Big Bertha B21s are freaking awesome whether you slice (like many) or want to play a bigger draw (like me). I’ve even been able to stay in stiff flex with everything (it’s a feel thing for me – I hook the daylights out of anything soft) and still hit it high enough. I’m sure the Mavrik Max irons would fit great here too.”

The most popular brand of hybrids of GolfWRX members

In our forums, our members have been getting involved in a survey to find out the brand of hybrids most commonly found in GolfWRX members’ bag. 328 of our members have taken part in the survey thus far, and the findings show that Ping is the brand WRXers turn to most when it comes to hybrids.
Our members have also been sharing the model of hybrid they currently play and why in our forums.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Jut: “Just added a Ping G425 to the bag after much testing the past month or so. I REALLY like the SIM2 Rescue, but couldn’t pass on the added forgiveness and distance of the G425, especially in the 19* slot. If I had (or do add) a 22*, it’ll more than likely be the SIM2 Rescue.”
- MaineMariner: “The oldest club in my bag, and the only one that I have no interest in replacing, is a Srixon H45 22-degree hybrid. It’s reliable and goes the distance I want it to. It’s the ultimate comfort club to me.”
- JermWRX: “Sim Max. Best hybrid I’ve ever owned.”
- NCDuffer: “Ping G400.”
