Spotted: Titleist 915 Fairway Woods and Hybrids
Titleist’s new 915 fairway woods and hybrids were spotted today at the 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone CC, just one month after the Titleist 915D drivers were spotted on tour at the Quicken Loans National.
Titleist is mum on the details of the new clubs, but we can tell from the photos that there will be two new fairway woods: a 915F and a lower-spinning 915F.d. There will also be two new hybrids: a 915H and a lower-spinning 915H.d.
On the tech side, the entire 915 line of drivers, fairway woods and hybrids have adjustable hosels and slots on the front of their soles that likely increase ball speed and forgiveness, particularly on shots hit off-center.

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
- driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300. The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length. I am playing a Ventus Red 70. I play 70 grams in my fairways. I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee. When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time. So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck. The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
- JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

The clubs look to be technologically advanced over previous Titleist models, but the paint-fill looks like it was done by an inexperienced counterfeiter. Hopefully the production model looks much more refined.

These clubs looks cheap and dorky. I hope they perform better than they look. Not impressed.

Don’t just a book by it’s cover. I have hit the full line of 915 metals. I gained 17 yards of carry over my 913 D2 and I dropped my spin rate by 700 RPM’s. The 915F and 915H were easer to hit and launched higher off of the deck with less spin. I hit all of 915’s with the same shafts and I have in my 913.

So they pretty much took the Adams XTD sole design and gave it a much improved paint job…great!

The new alignment marker is GARBAGE. Hot, broiled garbage.
I do not understand the move away from the standard mark. It looks like a rough draft sketch, or a knockoff. Everything else about these things looks sleek and refined, and then you’ve got a spooge mark on top of the club. Ridiculous.
That said, I can’t wait to hit them.

Interesting that they’re going back to club numbers while still including the loft on the hosel.

Are yall really comparing Taylormade to Titleist???? At least Titleist doesn’t come out with new clubs every six months. Taylormade has to buy players Titleist doesn’t, players come to them. Taylormade is a joke in my opinion. Top Pro golfs leave Titleist bc they go for the money. Titleist knows players will come to them so they dont have to worry.
Regis

Phil Michelson used to be with Titleist. Now He’s with Callaway. Last year in a tournament he was gaming a TM SLDR driver (well documented) that was painted over so as not to be identified. If he wanted to “step out” on his brand why didn’t he use the Titleist?
BcavWecllh
Jul 30, 2014 at 11:34 am
Do you really believe that players “come” to titlest? They are paying guys just like every mfg. You really think a player turns down dollars to play their equipment?? Doesn’t happen.

Oh my Dear Lord. 913 f or 913h has better look than 915f or 915h. They also follow what taylormade do. Front c.g and I can’t see the defreny between the f.d with f or h with h.d. that can make customers confused. Haha but will see wich one is good. But because the looks. Nooo

Titleist doing the low/forward CG with a slot? Looks like my TaylorMades just got validated. Loft Up+
MHendon
Jul 29, 2014 at 5:12 pm
Not sure where your getting the low/forward CG from, there’s no mention of that in the article but Titleist has always offered two models one with the CG farther back and one with it more forward. Plus the slot innovation or channel what ever you want to call it was being done by Nike and Adams before Taylormade. So no real credit to Taylormade on either one of those.

I think what these clubs show us along with everything else on the market is how worthless a patent is.

I liked this club when it was called compression channel and it was made by nike three years ago.
Steve
Jul 28, 2014 at 11:43 pm
Adams created the compression channel. Nike and innovation don’t even belong in the same sentence when it comes to golf equipment.
Robert G
Jul 29, 2014 at 9:48 am
Nike don’t belong? Please, Nike Covert and Covert 2.0 are some of the best woods made the last few years. Run the numbers against all the others, they beat out just about everyone.

Jul 29, 2014 at 3:41 pm
Robert, he said Nike AND Innovation,
Meaning they don;t invent, just refine.
I was at a TV sales presentation in 1989.
The speaker kept saying we were First with this
and that etc.All we wanted was the V2 or V3,like software !
Covert 2 are Great not Covert 1!
Smart move by Titleist to adopt whats newer and WORKS!
I liked my VR Tour !

Played with a clup pro who is playing in the PGA, so Titleist sent him the 915 – said he picked up 20 yards with it with same shaft
mhendon
Jul 29, 2014 at 6:50 pm
If he picked up 20 yards then his old driver was either persimmon or had a crack in the face. I don’t buy that for a second.
Regis
Jul 30, 2014 at 11:33 am
He lost me with the “I have a friend” intro only to be followed by a club pro playing “in the PGA”
BcavWecllh
Jul 30, 2014 at 11:36 am
Agreed. Do people realize how hard it is to pick up 20 yards?
DK
Jul 30, 2014 at 12:38 pm
Not that hard if you’re playing an old Titleist driver. If these new metals are significantly less spinning it’s possible…
MHendon
Jul 30, 2014 at 5:32 pm
That was kind of my point DK, but he’s a club pro so I doubt he was gaming anything much more than a year old.

Adams was first i believe which is why taylormade bought adams and then threw up on the brand. But anyway who cares i think they look slick im a ping guy but will definitely sample the kool aid . High five ! how much ?
Steve
Jul 28, 2014 at 11:45 pm
Funny, Ping is who it looks to me like they are trying awfully hard to mimic. i series fairways/hybrids look suspiciously similar.
mhendon
Jul 29, 2014 at 6:54 pm
Actually they look suspiciously like the 913’s which looked suspiciously like the 910’s which where on the market before the Ping I series of woods you’re comparing them to.

Here’s hoping Titleist goes back to more traditional none adjustable woods and hybrids.
