Tweets of the week: Tiger picks his shoes, Must-see grilling acc and more

Welcome, golf fans, to another edition of Tweets of the week.

With the new year upon us and our first 2014 (albeit limited field) tournament behind us, the traditional part of the 2013-2014 wrap-around PGA Tour schedule has begun. And soon, for those of you in northern climates, the snow will melting away and your first tee shot of the year will be piercing the blue sky above your favorite track…OK. That’s still a bit down the road, and if you’re like me, you’ll be reaching for your snow shovel 100 times before you reach for your driver.

Regardless, it is a great time in the world of golf, and one in which the Tour’s best face the annual inglorious task of spending several weeks in Hawaii for the recently completed Tournament of Champions (Zach Johnson is a bulldog) and the upcoming Sony Open.

With that, on to the tweets.

Duf Daddy took time from essentially live-tweeting the BCS National Championship game, which featured his beloved Auburn Tigers, to muse about Will Farrell’s success as a product pitchman.

The normally buttoned-up Webb Simpson donned an impressive flatbill and snapped the following mildly horrifying selfie. Rickie Fowler would be proud too…on both counts.

Taking to Twitter for the purpose of obvious promotion and in his role as Nike company man, as is so often the case, Tiger Woods tweeted the following. Not exactly the most overwhelmingly creative or stylistically bold design, I expect, but not a surprising selection by Tiger, who was nearly 20 years into his professional career before he donned a white belt (and remember the metal-tipped, almost Western, leather belt he used to wear?).

Both Bud Cauley and Josh Teater got these absolutely phenomenal “Hawaiian Open” covers from Scotty Cameron and took to Twitter to show the world. Cauley one-upped Teater in the Twitterverse, however, by bringing Teater’s wife into the discussion.

It’s not Tweets of the week without David Lynn, so here is the Twittering Englishman in the Superman garb he got for Christmas. Great to see the gift was functional and not merely a gag. A word to David: The Man of Steel fills out his suit a little better and likely doesn’t wax so philosophical about his role as a protector.

Luke and Diane Donald celebrated the “Year of the Selfie” by ringing in the new year with a selfie. No word on whether Donald’s sponsor Ralph Lauren provided the sweet 2014 glasses…

There are no words for how awesome Alex Ritcheie’s decision to outfit his grilling utensils with golf grips is. No words.

Ping presented Miguel Angel Jimenez with this gold putter to commemorate his victory in Hong Kong and celebrate his 50th birthday. Hopefully they gave him a gold cigar cutter as well.

Lastly, here’s Scott Langley with a significant announcement and a great photo.

Got that same barbecue kit. Guess I know where to put my left over Golf Prides 🙂 Let´s hope they don´t melt to easily.

GolfWRX is on site this week at the Valero Texas Open.

The event has been around since 1922, making it one of the oldest on the PGA Tour calendar. Over the years, it’s been held at a variety of courses across the Lone Star State, but it’s found its home at TPC San Antonio in recent years. Some of the biggest names in golf have taken home the title here, including Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Ben Crenshaw.

GolfWRX has its usual assortment of general galleries, WITBs and special pull-out albums. As always, we’ll continue to update the links below as more photos come in from TPC San Antonio.

On the heels of Scottie Scheffler’s dominant victory at Bay Hill, the PGA Tour heads a little farther north in Florida to TPC Sawgrass this week for The Players Championship. And of course, GolfWRX is on site to get a look at what the players are playing.

We’ve already spotted a new Titleist mini driver this week, and there’s plenty more.
