Brandt Snedeker injured in Segway mishap

Published

on

In addition to FedExCup champion and six-time PGA Tour winner, Brandt Snedeker can add the following item to his bio: injured while hopping off a Segway.

Humor related to the two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle invented by Dean Kamen has been rather off limits since the owner of the Segway Company, Jimi Heselden, perished in a Segway accident three years ago.

Clearly the infernal things are dangerous.

And certainly, there’s nothing funny about a professional golfer getting hurt, regardless of how it happens.

Even so, the thought on many golf fans’ minds has to be, “You got hurt jumping off a Segway, Sneds?”

“I felt a pop in my knee and pain,” the golfer said in a statement. “Fortunately this is a relatively minor injury and no surgery is required, so this is good news.”

The Vanderbilt grad has been diagnosed with a sprained ACL and bruised tibia. Even without surgery, the timetable for his return couple be a few weeks to a couple of months.

Response to news of Snedeker’s injury in the social media sphere has been, well, less than sympathetic. Here’s a tweet from Golf Channel’s Jason Sobel and a reply by (very fit) PGA Tour journeyman Bob Estes.

Your making million because you have trained the mind and body to perform a “gof swing.” For God sake, don’t you think somethings are better left tried after retirement e.g. snow boarding, skiing, motorcycles, or working like a ranch hand like Miller! Forest Gump was right, “Stupid is as stupid does!” Walt in Augusta

He should try the version 2 low spin model, tour issue only……

Massive shame for the people ‘Down Under’ in Australia though. We would have loved to to see Sned’s and Ricky, accompany Scott and Lieshman at the PGA on the Gold Coast… Ricky has served you well though -8 for the lead after round one. Hope Brandt does fully heal for the start of next year.

I think some of these guys work out too much.
These injury prone guys can’t spend so much time in a state of fatigue, benign incidents end up causing serious injuries.

I think Mr Snedeker should consider investing in a bubble wrap suit. He’s awfully brittle.

You sprain ligaments, and strain muscles. Sorry hate to be that guy, but I am always correcting my athletes and coaches about this 🙂
