Woods says he’s ready for the British Open

Tiger Woods is primed and ready to go in his bid to win his 15th major championship

This comes from the man himself, who published a blog on his website about the state of his injured left elbow entering the 142nd Open Championship at Muirfield.

“I started chipping and putting a little over a week ago and I’m full go for the British Open,” Woods wrote. “I’m very confident that my left elbow strain won’t be a problem and I will be able to hit all the shots I need to hit. That’s why I took the time off, so it could heal, and I would feel comfortable playing again. I’m still taking anti-inflammatory medication for my elbow and getting treatment, but the big thing at Muirfield Golf Club will be to avoid the rough.”

Woods said he first sustained the elbow injury at the Players Championship in May on his way to a two-shot victory. He then aggravated the injury at the U.S. Open last month, where he was in obvious pain throughout the tournament and finished in a tie for 32nd place.

At Muirfield, Woods will be required to play a variety of shots on the links course where weather is often unpredictable.

As Woods said, the key for him this week will be to avoid the thick Muirfield rough, which could really test his injury if he has to hack out of it often. Only time will tell if his elbow holds up to 72 holes of major championship golf.
