GolfWRX Forum Thread of the Day: How many “regular” PGA wins equal a “major” win?

Published

on

Today’s GolfWRX Forum Thread of the day comes from our members discussing the Player of the Year. Commenting on major wins compared to regular Tour wins, our members talk about Koepka’s two-major season, and what it would take for a different player to beat him out of the title. “How many regular Tour events equals one major win?”

Here are a few comments from the forum, but make sure to check the whole thing out in the link below:

  • johnseg: “Tough call for me. I like to see guys dominate. So I would put a 6 win guy ahead of a guy with two majors.”
  • FootWedge16: “In fact, I think there are a number of people on this forum that would rather have Koepka’s career (4 wins and 3 majors) than Dustin Johnson’s career (19 wins and 1 major). Which is completely ridiculous.”
  • c7015: “I want to say like 5-6 but in reality, no amount of regular wins replace a major … just ask the people in the tiger vs jack thread”

    I’m sure there are guys in the “a lot of wins but no Major” category that would trade a LOT of those wins for just one Major.

    Masters = 7
    US Open = 6
    Open = 5
    PGA= 4

    It is probably around the 5 win number but it’s a tricky question because if you are more of a average pro then you’ll take the 5 wins. If you are a stud you’ll take the majors.

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day showcases Tyrrell Hatton’s 2019 custom Ping PLD putters. Our crew were on-hand to snap the two putters in the Englishman’s bag last month, and the general feedback on the custom Ping PLD flat-sticks from our members has been positive.

For plenty more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • konklifer: “The second one is awesome. Why oh why aren’t there more minimal offset shafts like that?”
  • nova6868: “These PLD putters are so nice. Also, this appears to be a new face groove option.”
  • Titletown: “That would be awesome if they brought these all black PLD’s to retail.”

Forum Thread of the Day: “What happened to Angel Cabrera?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from golfnhack, who discusses the current struggles of former U.S. Open and Masters champion, Angel Cabrera. As golfnhack points out in the opening post of the thread, the Argentine is currently competing on the Web.com Tour where he shot rounds of 79 and 80 last week. Our members share their thoughts on Cabrera’s current form, while also reminiscing about their experience following “El Pato” up close during a round, and his past accomplishments in the game.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Holy Moses: “Age. Is going to be a Hall of Famer most likely. Doesn’t have time to practice like he used to?”
  • dpb5031: “I hope he gets his game back as he’s one of my favorites to watch. He plays quickly and seems to fully release every shot…no holding on whatsoever. His US Open win at Oakmont may have been the finest combination of power and accuracy with driver ever exhibited in a major championship.”
  • scotee: “I was privileged to see him play in person at the Open in Chambers Bay. You could pick him out from a mile away from the way he would stride up the fairway. So much natural talent and like others have said he did not make anyone wait to take his shot. One of the fun guys to watch for sure! I hope he does play often on the Senior Tour.”
  • Walter Sobchak: “El Pato is one that can go off the radar then show up and win Augusta on a hot week.  Course fits him, and I would assume it is his motivational peak for the year.  Hope he pops up on the leaderboard in April!”
  • BearQ: “His iron shot into 18 to force OT in the rain Masters ‘13 was one of best under pressure all time.”

Forum Thread of the Day: “Most forgiving players iron made within the past 5 years?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from moorebaseball who is on the hunt for the most forgiving players iron on the market from the last five years. Our members offer their suggestions to moorebaseball, with Ping’s S55 irons proving to be a popular recommendation.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • dpb5031: “Ping S55s if you prefer a more compact head, or the i200s if you want a slightly larger profile. Both are excellent, very forgiving “player’s” irons that have been used extensively on multiple Tours.”
  • WonIron: “I just bought my Second (backup) set of Adams forged XTD’s with stock KBS C-taper shafts for $160 on eBay. That was a good deal, but you can find them at $200 or better easy. Beautifully setup players look at address, forgiving and longer than the true blades I’ve been playing all my life.”
  • BigPapy: “Agreeing with others here on S55’s. Great clubs that most mid-cappers could play well.”
  • shakester: “Nike Vapor Pros or Pro Combos are a great set of irons that offer plenty of forgiveness.”
