Wilson’s new FG Tour V6 RAW irons (yes, they will rust)
Wilson came out with its FG Tour V6 irons in 2016, but these new Raw versions have a different look… and with time, they’ll have a VERY different look.
The new FG Tour V6 Raw irons have an unplated finish, and they’re designed to “develop a unique patina based on age, exposure and use over time,” according to Wilson. This gives each iron a unique look, and one that’s far from the clean cut original FG Tour release that had a chrome finish (which won’t rust).
In addition to the rusting effect, the irons are different because they have a copper badge in the cavity that will eventually match the color of the golf club over time. Here’s a graphic mock-up of how the Raw irons may look overtime.
Like the original releases, the irons have tungsten weights and mass behind the impact area for a “forged feel” and “improved feedback,” according to the company.
The FG Tour V6 Raw irons are a custom option on Wilson.com, and are available through Wilson’s premium partner accounts as of today, Tuesday, June 19. According to Wilson, the Raw irons “are a very limited production run,” so only a certain amount of sets will even be built.

Spotted: Tommy Fleetwood’s TaylorMade Spider Tour X Prototype putter
Tommy Fleetwood has been attached to his Odyssey White Hot Pro #3 putter for years now. However, this week at the Wells Fargo Championship, we did spot him testing a new putter that is very different, yet somewhat similar, to his current gamer.
This new putter is a TaylorMade Spider Tour X head but with a brand new neck we haven’t seen on a Spider before. A flow neck is attached to the Spider head and gives the putter about a 1/2 shaft offset. This style neck will usually increase the toe hang of the putter and we can guess it gets the putter close to his White Hot Pro #3.
Another interesting design is that lack of TaylorMade’s True Path alignment on the top of the putter. Instead of the large white center stripe, Tommy’s Spider just has a very short white site line milled into it. As with his Odyssey, Tommy seems to be a fan of soft inserts and this Spider prototype looks to have the TPU Pure Roll insert with 45° grooves for immediate topspin and less hopping and skidding.
The sole is interesting as well in that the rear weights don’t look to be interchangeable and are recessed deep into the ports. This setup could be used to push the CG forward in the putter for a more blade-like feel during the stroke, like TaylorMade did with the Spider X Proto Scottie Scheffler tested out.
Tommy’s putter is finished off with an older Super Stroke Mid Slim 2.0 grip in blue and white. The Mid Slim was designed to fit in between the Ultra Slim 1.0 and the Slim 3.0 that was a popular grip on tour.

I’ve done a few sets for customers sandblasted raw, look much better than the original shinny chrome. These are great sticks probably would get more of a following if Wilson brought them to market in satin.

Fact is it appears that most are more interested in how they look, having the newest out there, and the ego trip than how they play. Look at the real players, they have older stuff they know they can play with. Oh well, that is what keeps a Company going, so get out the CC and buy it.
Actually the V6 is a great club at a really good price whether it is rusty or not, a great club.

Love the look and Wilson taking a risk by releasing them to the public. In my opinion, now just take the plastic badges off the back and you’ve really got something special.

Not my thing, but for some, it’ll be a huge must-have.

Gearheadbaters will never accept rusty irons because they polish daily the clubs they love so dearly. It’s a romantic ritual that separates deluding gearheadbaters and legit golfers.

Love it. Personally I think the “patina” look is one of the coolest things you can do to a club aesthetically.

this is what irons used to do prior to chroming. I don’t think the generation after mine will appreciate the patina factor. Hope I’m wrong.
