This one is a real doozy! So many golfers have no clue what the difference is, and everything you do in golf hinges around this very concept. Check out this must-see video!

Sorry Shawn no disrespect intended but I stopped watching your videos a while ago, you are too long winded and there’s a boredom factor with redundant information. I think you can get your points across in about a third of the time.

Shawn, great lesson. It seems to be very similar to my recent lessons in which my instructor wanted me to take a very strong grip and work on hitting the ball straight or maybe to the right by forcing me to extend through the shot and not flip my hands. If I flip, the shot is a smothered hook with the strong grip. Does this make sense? I can do it on the practice range but having great difficulty taking it to the course, especially the driver. Any advice is appreciated.

The fishing lure analogy is probably the best I’ve heard. I like it much better than the throwing a ball analogy.

Definitely plan to work on this.

Those analogies are incorrect because they are not scientifically correct for the golf swing. They may be mentally encouraging but not what happens in a golf swing.

You swing the clubhead AT the ball… you swing your body THRU the ball… 😮
    Think about IT …

How do I know whether I am flipping my hands (release too early, casting) versus swinging through the ball? Anytime I have practiced a similar move in the past another instructor tells me I am releasing too early and have a arms/handsy swing and not using the big muscles.

If you are consciously attempting to apply supination twist through Release you are ‘flipping’. Release must happen non-consciously.

This video ties in nicely with your ‘Baton Twirl’ video, which is one of the best golf swing related videos about the release that I’ve ever seen that every golfer should watch.

Published

on

It’s the move we all want in the downswing… and rightfully so. Shallowing the club is a great way to put your swing on plane and really start to narrow you misses. All shallowing moves are not equal, however; in fact, there are a couple that you’ll definitely want to try to avoid because they can actually have the opposite effect!

We’ve broken this series into two parts to make it more digestible. This is Part 1. Thank you for watching!

Shallowing the Club: Two Moves to Avoid (Part 2) is coming soon!
